Bought a high mileage N55, need advice on urgent maintenance
Hi all,
Im back in a E90 7 years after selling my 2006 330i. Just picked up a 2011 335i M-sport Xdrive. I wanted manual but they are so rare and I settled on a auto. Im actually enjoying the 6 speed ZF, its a lot quicker shifting than I thought! Anyways the car had 2 owners and has 130,000 miles on it. Some things were done on it from what I can see, like the oil filter housing, charge pipe, and valve cover gasket. Other than that im not sure what has been done to it. It did not come with too many service records other than oil changes, brakes, tires, and basic stuff like that. On such a high mileage car, what would you guys recommend I do first as far as maintenance? Im hoping to keep this car at least 4-5 years. I was thinking to start with transmission fluid change and diff fluid, maybe spark plugs? I appreciate any advice. Thanks

pretty much what you said, i.e.. plugs/coils/fluids but depending on how it was driven and tuned before, might not be a bad idea to preventatively replace the rod bearings. These sometimes can look good at very high miles, but sometimes, are down to copper in less than 100,000 miles. it makes a lot of sense to do if the oil pan gasket is leaking which it probably is at 130,000 miles.

Trans fluid/filter for sure. Plugs are a good idea. Other than that, just look for leaks, you'll need to replace a gasket somewhere soon enough!
