Service Advisor advised that BMW tires are not to be rotated?

Is this norm? My wheels are not staggered. Considering we have a huge and heavy vehicle, do you plan to have your tires rotated? Although most here have M50i's, please do feel free to chime in.

They told me the same thing and I told them to rotate them anyway. I've rotated them twice already and I have just over 16K on my 2020 X7 with All Season NON Run Flat 21" tires.

Did you have to pay for the rotation? Also with 16K miles, any issues or items you had addressed to the dealer? Lastly, looking at your brake pads, you see getting another 15K miles? Thanks Mitch.

Rotate them. Especially with a square set up.
AWD vehicles need to have their tire rotated every 5k miles. I do it myself. I been down this road with Audi’s for decades. Miss a tire rotation and you will see the additional wear on the treads.

I've driven over 1 million miles over the last 30 years, and in 2WD vehicles, the drive wheels (front or rear) always had more wear and thus could benefit from regular tire rotation. But AWD/4WD vehicles I've driven have never needed a tire rotation. Their tires front/rear left/right all wore evenly.
If the suspension is in good shape and wheels are properly balanced, there shouldn't be significant wear difference front/rear/left/right in a 4wd/awd vehicle based on my experience.

(Disclaimer, my experience with AWD vehicles have all been with German vehicles. So I can't say if American or Asian AWD/4WD vehicles wear at the same rate. My experience with 2WD vehicles have been a combination of German and American and they have similar wear patters with the American vehicles having slightly higher wear on the drive wheels).

My experience with Japanese AWD cars is that to rotate all the tires because I was told they have front wheel bias and front wheel tend to wear faster.

It is supposed to be part of the included maintenance. They are getting paid for it and just trying to get away with not doing it. If you have a staggered setup with directional tires then they are correct, but if not they should be rotated.

That being said and assuming you have non-staggered wheels on your X7, you will not be rotating?

Do you have some documentation that shows that tire rotation is included in the regular maintenance? I paid for my rotations just because it was less than 50 bucks and I was already at the dealer. Normally, I do all my tire business through Discount Tire.

I would like to see some documentation about rotations being part of the 3 year 36,000 free maintenance though.

Same here.. would like to see.

On the same note, how do we temporarily disable the air suspension so we can jack up the car? If we don't do this, will it damage the system?

Do you rotate with staggered tires? They are different sizes I think. I know you can't just rotate fronts together and rears because then the tire will spin backwards.

I do not plan to rotate. My wife's x3 RWD only shows a 1/32" difference between front and rear tires after 24k miles with no rotation.

Same here on my E90, 15k with no difference at all. Safe to say because they are rear wheel drive?

typically much of nothing. occasionally a really nasty "suspension error, you dumbass" message that you can typically drive clear.

This brings up another question for me: what are you using for wheels-off detailing or rotations? It seems a little sketchy to leave it up on two jacks, but the numbers don't seem to line up even for the quickjack 7000 extended model.

edit: and no, you don't rotate staggered tires. Even if it might look like it could almost fit, the wheels are wider in back with a different offset, meaning nothing would fit right or work right.

No rotation for staggered.

If non-staggered, and the tires are directional (i.e. speed rated), you could only swap front and rear, which only has partial benefit.

I have staggered for summer and same size for winter after one second each they measured exactly the same which I was surprised, I would expect rears with more wear. Perhaps BMW has some more advanced traction control and power distribution that does prevent uneven wear? I have done about 4K miles on each set and going thru second season with winters now
