Alpina has never been big on significant aesthetic changes. They always start with a non-M Sport body and add subtle changes throughout. The end result has always been understated, but that's the intent. It's the way the whole package comes together, between the power delivery (not just peak numbers), sound character (not just loud), suspension/transmission/AWD tuning, and all the other little bits and pieces, that makes a difference.

I've driven and been driven in a few, and they're definitely something special. A car like this is never, ever the practical choice for the money, because that isn't the intention.

For the interiors though they typically spruce it up with some gorgeous wood trims, better materials, as well as seat patterns, such as the B3 which they improved greatly. Maybe the XB7 has this, but the model they decided to use in the press photos doesn't look to have many upgrades in that department.

I'm getting mild G-Class vibes, both totally useless, unnecessary and an exercise in excess but yet I'm so glad this exists. 612 horses with 7 people must be a riot

All true. We will just have to wait and see when the configurator is actually released to see what our options are. We can't judge the entire selection on the one vehicle they use for press release photos.

Keep in mind, it's possible these photos are just the ones selected for certain markets, in which case they'll use specs they think will be common for that market. The opposite to what we're seeing can happen if they build a press release vehicle with all their special woods, colors, and stitching...some people could find it all gaudy and think that's the norm.

Familiar with Alpina's approach and aesthetics, and the exception to starting with the non-M Sport body was the F25 Alpina XD3 Bi-Turbo's which used the M Sport line.

As @Jstein55 mentioned and which I agree with:

Compared to the Alpina B7, this is a bit mediocre.

And... it's going to need each and every bit of that powertrain if the curb weight is approx. 200-400 lbs heavier than a Ford Expedition.

Also, in no way are these things "sporty." They should be called luxury utility vehicles... LUVs... Would hate to to be tasked with marketing that acronym! Lol
I have a 20 M5C and the Mrs has an 20 X7 4.0i M Sport. I drive her car enough to have pushed it a bit in Sport Mode. The X7 is sportier than you think and I'm coming from a 17 F85 (Dinan everything) and currently in the M5C.

This Alpina XB7 will set the benchmark for the full size sports luxury SUV market!

Hmmm ... for that price tag I'll stick with my M50i. I'd personally rather see the M Sport styling as a base for that car as well. To each their own I guess.

We don’t get the special Alpina Lavolina (or however they spell it) leather here in the US, so the interiors are basically the same as a BMW Individual vehicle, just with Alpina logos, blue gauges, and steering wheel.

I like the Alpina etched crystal iDrive knob.

The GLS 63 looks so much better from every single angle. Looking on this x7 and I don't see nothing special, even the x5 look so much better. Look at the pictures from the side, the x7 looks like a squished box, the back window is insanely small, the front end is way to long, the 2nd row seats are so close to each other, and the list can go on and on.

Although I would not buy one (no need for extra seats), I think this vehicle is exceptional at the price point being offered while sending a polite message that it's premature to declare tablets and Duracells on four wheels a clear winner.

As @Jstein55 mentioned and which I agree with:

Compared to the Alpina B7, this is a bit mediocre.
The B7 had pretty much the same treatments that the XB7 is getting, with the exception of the extended stitching, which is a function of it being a G12 LCI, not an Alpina. We don't know if the door sills are illuminated (they likely are) because it's light in the picture, but from these images we can see the typical Alpina treatment to the interior. Individual Merino leather with contrast stitching and piping, Alcantara headliner, Alpina logo on the Piano Black trim as well as on the iDrive controller, Alpina plaque on the cover forward of the gear selector, Alpina-specific instrument cluster design, etc.

I'm just curious what this is missing that you're expecting or seeing from the B7, with the exception of the extended stitching.

Also, this is just one car in one spec we're seeing. We don't have the ordering/pricing guides to see what else is available and what other Alpina-specific options are available to the XB7.

I'd save the extra cash and just got M50i. BMW already nailed the X5 and X7 pretty well.

I consider Alpina and its historical reputation. If I had the cash to burn then why not.

Yet another car i was hoping would make me dislike my m50i x7 enough to get an itch to change, but this is pretty underwhelming. That price point is way too much for the very slight upgrade.
