Question - starting engine without key inserted

For some reason. When I goto turn the car off and pull the key out, I can still start the engine without the key in...

Is this normal?

This was covered either here or bimmerfest too. It only happens within a certain period of time under certain specific conditions. You can do a search on it.

After you take out your key....but as long as your foot is still on the brakes.....you can still start the car. Try it! But it's retarded....

There are some functions that are available for a short period of time after you have finished your drive and removed the remote. Although I have not tried the start up without my non comfort access remote in its slot, you can work some electrics etc for a while, up to about 15 minutes, depending on what it is.

Not sure if I would ever start the car without the remote in place as the steering lock is activated once you pull out the remote.

Next time please do a search before you post! This topic has been killed already. I am not being a jerk, it just seems that this site is getting a lot of repeat post and people may stop answering them soon.

Any forum that goes from small and chummy to big and busy gets this. It happens at bimmerfest all the time and it is now happening at LegacyGT.com. Newbies don't always know to search right away so this happens. At least they're joining the board!

Sometimes it is hard to search for a particular question because there aren't very good keywords for it--give him a break!
