i got 07/2023.33 as a dealer update when i brought my car in for its first service, its not 8.5. i have a 2023.
the OTA in sept should be 07.2023.xx (99 percent sure you will get the same version that i got at the dealer.) its 8.5 only on the 2024s.

1) they trimmed the data files they distributed. in the very distant past, the coding data files had very friendly descriptions as to what bits of config did. that disappeared about 10 years ago- "trimmed cafds"

2) in the past, the coding data files used to be sent to the dealerships and other places, allowing the files to be leaked to the internet. this is the backbone behind coding. these files are needed in order to be able to change the config and write the changes to the modules in the car. bmw no longer sends these files out. now when the car is programmed at the dealer, the files are no longer available in an acessible form. also files being loaded need to be digitally signed now.

its pretty much done unless someone can get ahold of the signing key and figure out how to impersonate the back end server that does the code signing

Is this some sort of German mistranslation?

ISTA is the BMW service software. Guessing it means that the new version of ISTA can now deal with (work with) the secure coding system on the new car models.

i think its actually a preceeding paragraph, i dont have the original source. very likely it means ISTA 4.0 can connect to the new cars. not in regards to coding. thats pretty cut and dry, bmw no longer has the coding data readily available, and any coding changes need to be signed by bmw itself to be loaded by the modules, so pretty much game over for coding.
even if the coding files were leaked, they're useless unless the changes are signed.

So I was reminded of this today as my 1yr old $200 AirPod Pros automatically updated to the latest firmware with most if not all of the new features of the latest version. Meanwhile BMW thinks it’s appropriate to sell me a $100,000+ car and tell me I can’t get certain software updates as my car is 6months too old?? How is anyone on this forum okay with that?

I can reluctantly live with HW upgrades between model years (I believe Highway Assist should be made backward available to 2023 models, perhaps not all may agree) but to be selective in SW updates backward is pretty upsetting to say the least.

I feel the same. I am ok to stay on ID8 but Climate Menu in ID8 is unacceptable terrible, BMW knows that and fixed it in 8.5 but left ID8 customers stuck with unacceptable design. Also ID8 does not allow to choice seat heat level in auto mode. ID7 and ID8.5 supports seat heat level selection but ID8 not.
I already called BMW genius and ask to record my complain about this situation. I guess that we all have to do the same to let BMW know that they must fix Climate Menu in ID8 too.

I asked the dealer to update our 2023 X7 and they installed 7/2023.45. First thing I noticed was that the fonts are now different on the Instrument Cluster. The Speedo tipped me off then I noticed the outside temp and the others are now a little different. Also there seem to be new added features in some menu's like interior lighting I think.

This x100. I dont know if it is because BMW has german culture too deeply ingrained, while their engineering is actually pretty decent (not great, but decent) their product management is terrible. Roadmaps always seem full of forced features and little trickle down of insights to older versions. Vehicles have a relatively long ownership cycle, this is one area that tesla really does very well in.
There is no reason why they cannot update the climate UI screen to closely match 8.5 and add the heated seat button pop ups.

how did you upload 8.5 to your X. Dealer, or OTA?

I technically have a '24.
Anxious b/c I have coding preloaded (EHBA, particularly) on os8.

what's your build month? mine's a 6/23 build

so, is the conclusion that the title and original post is completely wrong? Do we know for sure now (or at least to date) that 2023 X7 builds will NOT get ID8.5?

This was my initial predication anyway, but am curious. If so, I think the title of the thread must be changes or a note must be added that the title is wrong.

04/23 build (one of the first '24 models).

Dealer did the update, I brought it in because I was getting intermittent "camera malfunction" issues.

anyone know when 8.5 will be available OTA? Thought I had read September and now we're in October...would rather not wait until I need to bring the car into the dealer

EDIT - found info here https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2051598

Saw my genius today. He’s still standing on the wall saying the 23 X7s will get 8.5 OTA, but it’s delayed.

He mentioned any BMW with service pack 21 or 22 and a curved display will get it via OTA. The 23s have service pack 21.

We will see.

Any official confirmation on this? It has been all over the place and it is very annoying. MY2023 are way too new to be considered "obsolete" by BMW.

It was confirmed months ago that the 23's will not be getting 8.5.

BMW, it was noted in a number of SIBs. The 23 X7 was specifically used as an example of a model that can't be updated to 8.5 and it can't be retrofitted with the new head unit.
