Question "full tank click" when pumping gas

hey guys, I've got a 2008 328xi. There is this problem that happens every time I put gas in; the pump would give a "click" that you usually get when the tank is completely filled, except I would get that "click" continuously every few seconds.

Though the click goes away if I play around with the position of the pump nozzle and angle it differently sometimes.

Can anyone tell me the cause of this click? is it a serious problem with the tank itself?

- thanks so much

I replied to your other thread but heres the answer.

Mine does that too, there's nothing wrong with your tank. The nozzle just isn't in the right position. Its supposed to click when your tank is full but if the nozzle isn't in the right place then it clicks b/c there is back pressure.

Yeah I've had it happen at a few stations, but only a few times. If your curious what your gas is at, just put your key in and put the car in auxiliary mode (press start but don't put foot on brake)

It happened to me a few times as well. I just screw it and go to a different gas station.

I find that if you pull the nozzle back (away from the car) a little ---- this would go away.....

Maybe you should practice with a condom before jumping into the real thing!

I have the issue at certain gas stations only - try flipping the nozzle upside down - you look like a loon but it works.

WTF back pressure from tank exceedes delivery pressure from pump causing pump to shut off "Failsafe" REASON vent pipe in delivery tube "inside tank either has a restriction or pump pressure is too high, often occuring on a diesel pump designed for trucks. Either way live with it

Agreed. No need to find a different station. This happened to me within the first couple of fill-ups, but luckily I had been hungrily reading e90post while waiting for my car, so I was aware of the issue. I just rotate the nozzle 90 degrees.

thanks so much for the replies guys, appreciate it. Great to hear it's not a mechanical problem with the car itself

Cheers.
