It looks about right but why guess? Ask to for the money factor, residual value, capitalized cost reduction, the dealer fees, rebates available and adjusted cap. cost so you can have a better picture of the overall lease structure. When you have all the numbers in front of you, then you can fine tune it a bit, for example, making sure the money factor is not too high (Edmunds forum will give a baseline to ask for), also making sure the incentives have been applied and see if there's a little room for a dealer discount as well.

There is at least another $600 left to negotiate, but the biggest issue is the lack of tax credits right now. That is the most attractive part about leasing an X7. If you could wait until there are tax credits on an X7, (maybe March/April), you could save yourself ~$4,500 (almost $100/month), by paying only 1% tax, instead of 6.25%. I had a Texas deal worked for about $1050 on a $92k X7 at 36/12, but couldn't get the dealer to trade to go through. Waiting until tax credits are available again.

Also, if you lease, typically BMW offers a lower residual right before the end of your lease. That could be another $10k less than the residual, and even though you have to pay 6.25% sales tax to buy out the lease, you would only owe it on that pay out.

Thank you! That’s a very helpful response. Can you elaborate on the tax credits? Is it dependent on the government or is this something related to BMW specifically? Not sure I understand why it will change in March/April. Sorry if I’m being dense! My current lease (Land Rover) doesn’t end until October so I’m not in a rush.

Tax credits are given by BMW (or other brands also, like Lexus, Toyota, etc.) for leases specifically, and they cover certain models for certain months. December tends to have a lot of them. The X7 didn’t have them in November 2020, but did have them in December for example. I don’t understand 100% how they work, but in Texas, when you lease a car, Texas requires sales tax due on the purchase price, unlike some other states, even though BMW is the owner, and at lease turn in, I guess they get credit somehow. Most dealers won’t divulge this, and there is a finite amount of tax credits that most dealers can use. It comes in handy, to make numbers work out to make a sale happen. Tax credits mean you pay 1% sales tax, instead of 6.25% sales tax. Hope this helps!

That makes sense now, thanks! The dealer told me the best they can do is $1,175/month and they won’t share the lease worksheet so I’m really left guessing at the cap cost, MF, and residual value assumptions. I backed into a 6% discount including incentives which is awful. Most BMW dealers in Texas just don’t seem too interested in making a deal on the X7 right now. Hopefully that changes in the next few months

Which dealer? You can build a custom X7 with a lease broker for minimum 8% discount. I’ve seen as high as 11%. Search on Leasehackr forums. Insight auto consulting I think is at 8% + incentives and does a lot of Texas leases. But tax credits will mostly only be on in-stock units. Cant really time that on a custom build.

How much do brokers generally charge?

Price varies from $399-599. Just depends which one you go with.

Questions about pricing with the BMW Individual Program. A dealer recently mentioned that if you order Individual, you have to pay MSRP. Is that really true?

We're in the same boat as you.

Expecting our 3rd child and the wife really wants to trade in our x6 m50i for a x7 m50i.

We've been going back and forth on 3 colors...limerock, fashion grey and nardo grey.

I was wondering what price target or discount percentage should I expect if ordering a car with individual paint?

Cooper bmw in OKC has a limerock x7. Maybe a better discount chance even with shipping since it's in inventory?

Right now dealers that are demanding no less than MSRP (or in the case here in Alaska, demanding ABOVE MSRP) before incentives, are just crazy. Talk to BMW David, he's just down the coast from you in MD, can ship right to you if you don't want to pick it up, blow that deal out of the water. www.bimmerdavid.com

I think the total savings line you see already includes loyalty and incentives. At least it did for me. I think you can squeeze out a few more percentage point though. For your reference, I attached a picture from the deal I was getting last week. Ended up going another route and buying a 2020 that was loaded and had an MSRP of about $100k. Couldn't get over the initial depreciation hit I would be taking on a new one. Anyhow, I'd push a little harder. Feel free to use my picture and show them what I was getting.

Agreed, M3th_add1ct that deal looks like that's AFTER incentives. If that really is before incentives, that's a pretty good deal.

After reading through these, I think I got a bad deal -- did it earlier this month, 40i with $91,645 MSRP and paid $87,000, so about 5% off. Custom order, should arrive in two weeks. I reached out to 5 dealers in the NYC area, got BMW Manhattan to match at the $87K that another dealer offered, but only 3 of the 5 bothered to engage when I went out with an $85K ask on a custom so I thought supply was a bit tight.

One weird thing kept happening with the lease math when I asked them to price the lease - anything I added to the down payment reduced my monthlies by less than the aggregate - it was like a negative interest rate getting applied (if I offered to put down $1000, the monthly lease payments went down by about $950, so I ended up paying $50 more to put $1000 down versus nothing down).

Live and learn I guess.
