Wood Trim - Matte vs Glossy
Working on finalizing an order for my 40i. Can’t decide which wood trim. I’m concerned that a matte finish may not hold up as well. I’ve only had the glossy finish in all my previous vehicles. Thoughts?

If going for a brown wood, I’d get the matte. I think it looks more updated. I have the navy/ivory Individual interior and the gray glossy trim, but for the other color leathers, I would’ve gotten matte.

I think it's the other way around. Matte wood can hide scratch and finger print pretty well.

If you are referring to the trim known as “Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte Finish Wood”on the configurator, we have that. I personally do like it, as I feel it looks “classy” and quality. My wife did comment (once, right after we took delivery) that it looked “dirty”—as if it was smudged—but I think it just takes some getting used to. Now, about 3 weeks into ownership or so, we both like it. It is not a material that is going to show smudges, etc, very easily, and like I said above, it lends the interior a touch of class.

I love our Anthracite Brown. I have had glossy so many times and it shows fingerprints and scratches so much more. It doesn't look dirty ever and the color is so nice. Its not too warm or too grey. I am so happy we went with it.

Hey coloradophil I grew up pretty close to you, outside Larkspur, and went to college there.
Having seen all the X7 trims available so far, I most definitely will be going for a matte finish (matte black with bronze effect) or one of the new MY2020 trims. (maybe the black with aluminum inserts) I love the piano black gloss, but yes, it shows scratches and fingerprints so easily. The matte finish is a very classy contrast with the leather and plastic/metal trim finish, and looks very nice. Probably matte for me. |

Definitely will be matte for me as well. This will be my first BMW but every car I've had before now has had gloss trim.
I test drove an X7 50i with matte trim. I know for sure it's what I want. Just waiting for M50i to open up so I can get my order in... |

My wifes XC90 has matte wood. No fingerprints and no scratches with 3 kids under 11 for approximately 3 years so far. If you like the colors of matte wood available on x7 i think its a no brainer to go with matte. The only matte I'm against is paint. I had a 2013 matte black g63. Hardest paint to up keep and the actual imperfections even though very minor from factory are basically unfix able.

I have the matte black with bronze effect with the two-color individual interior (although I'm unsure what the "bronze effect" actually is)
I love it - would certainly have it again. |

Thats how it came when we picked up the car. It should fit. Maybe you have to turn it a certain way? Not sure. We don't use ours, it's not even in the car anymore, that picture was taken 5 mins after I got the car.

We have the Anthracite-Brown Poplar Matte and we love it, had it ~3 months now and have no issues or concerned with wear. It's an open face wood and is very beautiful and rich looking. Being a natural wood with a lot of variation and little knots even if there was minor damage it would likely blend in and be unnoticeable and only add to the charter of the wood.
Pictures do not do this trim justice you really can't appreciate its beauty until you see it in person especially in the sun. In my experience the shiny finish is going show more damage over time. It will show fine scratches and finger prints. |

I just ordered an X7 with the Executive Package. I chose the Fineline black because I thought it looked awesome with the glass controls. Hope I'm not sorry when trying to keep it pristine! Matte also looks terrific. best of luck.
