Sure, just reminding others what potentially could happen. While typically fault codes should come back, we know random electrical gremlins are hard to replicate.

Just picked up an Alpina Blue '21 Alpina XB7. Want to code the ambient lights to have an Alpina Blue/Green color mix. Can anyone help guide me how to do this within Bimmercode?

Thanks in advance,
Scott

Here you go....

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1738645

But I recommend you start off with some easier things to code first if you are not familiar with BimmerCode (or coding in general). This is more advanced level stuff using Expert Mode.

Thanks I’ve been coding my BMWs for the last 10 years with Esys... just went the bimmercode path this past week.

Then based on your experience, you will definitely enjoy the ease and convenience of coding using Expert Mode in BimmerCode. Although, you won’t have access to all of the car’s ECUs like you do with E-Sys...

Using Expert Mode in BimmerCode, use the search function in the following modules and code the following....

BDC_BODY3 (Body Domain Controller) module:
FesSportWorldMode1 -> Sport Expert

HU_MGU (Head Unit) module:
FES_SPORT_EXPERT -> Aktiv

Thanks a million dude! Worked like a charm.

Is this cosmetic or does it actually open things up more?

In iDrive, go into the Drive Mode settings for Sport Individual. Set Suspension to Sport, Engine to Sport Plus, and Transmission to Sport Plus. Then, after engine startup and you are ready to go, put the car in manual mode after you put the X7 into Drive (physically move the shifter to the left, but don’t use the paddle shifters on the steering wheel). And then you will have your answer .....

BimmerCode does not have that capability, it will require a PC running E-Sys Coding software.

In Sport Individual, Engine and Transmission are the only options that have the Sport Plus setting. You can also choose the "Sport Plus" driving mode option if you don't want to use the customization of Sport Individual. For the Engine, Sport Plus will have a different throttle map, allowing for quicker and more sensitive throttle response. For the Transmission, all gear shifts are quicker and more aggressive in Sport Plus - which might feel a bit "jerky" to some under certain driving conditions. Also, the transmission will down shift more aggressively as you hit the brakes, keeping the engine RPMs in the engine power band for when you get back on the gas after you apex that corner on your favorite highway on/off ramp or that "fun" turn on your favorite twisty road close to your house ....

Out of curiosity, can BimmerCode code specifically to a driver profile, or are the changes saved as base settings?

I threw this in notes so I could keep it handy in airplane mode when I did it

Enable Sport + function & Comfort + functions
Expert mode
Body Domain Controller - BDC
3221 PfFesMaster > fes > Change FesSportWorldMode1 to SportExpert (Default should be Non sport expert).
“3221 PfFesMaster” > fes > comfort plus > Comfort Plus

Enable sport + & comfort + options in the I drive menu
Expert mode
Headunit - MGU
3008 > Fes_sport_Expert > Change nicht aktiv to aktiv for sport +
3008 > Fes_Comfort_Plus and change it to aktiv for comfort +

The pedal profile between c+ and eco does seem a bit different. c+ still lets you get on it where eco throws a big wet blanket on the throttle.

I'm curious what extra on the suspension programming side the xb7 does. This definitely loosens up the car to make it more compliant, but suspension feels a bit like eco--softer, a bit less laterally stiff than comfort. You don't get rocked as much as you turn through dips, for instance.

I'd love to get the xb7's height adjustment params

Awesome! Thanks! I was going to pay someone locally but I'm thinking I will try this myself so I dont have to keep going back after system updates (I hear it erases changes after updates) xb7 height params would be nice!

@jmciver In another post you're saying " if you code your car you could affect your warranty as you are technically changing the parameters of your car via an unauthorized means according to BMW." I wonder if that's something that we still should consider prior any coding?

Sure you should consider this as there will always be some risk - and the risk is never zero. However, when looking historically at how coding negatively affects warranty, and after my time on the forums, I don't remember seeing anything about a person being denied warranty work due to coding alone. I have personally experienced no issue as well with all of my BMWs that were coded, including my M3 and X7.

That said, BMW is paying more attention to people who modify their cars as it applies to warranty work. This additional focus by BMW primarily has to do with engine tuning - people tune their engine, blow the engine, and then try to get it covered under warranty when the owner's actions clearly contributed to the problem. BMW has gone so far as to "flag" cars now when it comes to suspected engine tuning.

Now, will BMW continue this additional level of scrutiny when it comes to coding (which is different, but still similar to engine tuning)? Who knows, but coding still is technically altering the vehicle condition as it was delivered from the factory via a non BMW approved method. Not trying to fear monger, after all I code my BMWs (as do many,many enthusiasts), but I acknowledge the potential risk, but low probability, and accept it - and think that people should make informed decisions. But at the end of the day, the decision is ultimately up to the owner and the owner needs to be ready to take responsibility for his/her actions...
