X7 PHEV rumors?
Heard there maybe a 45e version to the X7 possibly for 2022? How many think it will happen? I honestly like to see this happen because I though the X5 45e was a bit small and would've only ever considered the X7 if it came PHEV. I currently have a 530e which adding a X7 45e would be perfect in our stable.

FWIW, here's the best information we have on the X7 LCI engines, from this thread:

And a discussion about the X8 (XM, or G09) upcoming engines, which are expected to include a 45e. https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1868765

Not sure what you are talking about. Have a proper EV charger as I have 530e. Would love to have X7 plug in to drive locally "for free" (have big solar panel system) and be able to tow my trailer, for which I have X5. X7 is proper size for my current needs. But likely only plug in version would convince me to pay that much money for a car.

Also, this has been much talked about that to get tax credit the car has to hit I think combined 50 mpg. For a much heavier car like x7 it’s going to take a lot bigger battery, which poses another problem - where to put it. 45e loses trunk space, x7 would need creativity. Now, given all the shortages and “excitement” about iX, my opinion is BMW is going to put more effort on making iX successful rather than tinker with X7 mid cycle. They don’t need to sell x7, it’s already a seller. With chip shortage and supply chain issue, it does not make business sense. But there is my 1.5 cents. |

The new Range Rover will be available with 7 seats & plug-in hybrid, with claimed range of 62 miles and 50 kW charger.

The new 7 passenger Range Rover PHEV will probably prod BMW to announce an X7 PHEV.

You can check the link above (underlined text), or the same link below:
https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-r...nd-seven-seats Long wheelbase models will be available with the P440eIt is a bit unclear if the LWB P440e will be 7-seater, fingers crossed that it will. For those of us who require 7 seats (I have 4 kids), there really isn't too many premium hybrids to choose from. Here's hoping that BMW would make one. Other potential upcoming options would include Volvo XC100 and Audi Q9, but both of them are only rumours at this stage. I know I am truly at a niche here, but Tesla X is not suitable as I require a roof box for skis. Hybrid engines are quite important in countries where tax on car price is based on emissions. For example, I would pay over 90 kUSD in taxes on top of the price of X7 M50, whereas for hybrid the tax paid would drop to under 5 kUSD. It really drives purchase decisions, as is intended. Yes i think so but XM even with the 45e will likely be in another price category. We will know more soon.

You're both correct--the XM/X8 will be a 2 row SUV, currently indicating to have a hybrid available. And is said to be "the most expensive production BMW ever made".

The PHEVs are not available with three rows, owing to packaging difficulties with the underfloor batteries and target weight limits. OK BMW, now I am relying on you to bring a 7 seater X7 45e! Having said that, not sure how BMW could overcome the same problems that Range Rover is facing. Last edited by k23435; 11-07-2021 at 12:07 PM.. |

Just to close the loop on this, I visited the local Land Rover dealership yesterday as they were showcasing the new Range Rover. I quite liked it, but naturally you may feel differently.
Unfortunately the sales person confirmed, that the new Range Rover PHEV will only come in Short Wheelbase (SWB), and thus it is not available in the Long Wheelbase (LWB) 7 seater configuration. The search continues, the shortlist for 7 seater PHEV now includes: 1. BMW X7 LCI (sadly unlikely to come in PHEV) 2. Upcoming Volvo XC90 (potentially introduced in 2022 for MY2023) 3. Upcoming (?) Audi Q9 (potentially introduced in 2023 for MY2024) Many thanks for the suggestions in the other thread, unfortunately majority of them are not on sale on this side of the Atlantic. It's smaller than the X7, especially the 3rd row seats and rear cargo room. 3rd row is only for very small kids and only short trips at that. Where as in the X7 I've had 5'8" adults in 3rd row for several hour long trips and they were comfortable. It's noisier, that 4 cylinder doesn't sound good at all. and more road/wind noise. It's rougher riding than X7. Suspension doesn't feel as refined. An acquaintance has the T8 PHEV version of the XC90 and has had a lot of issues with it. Always at the dealer for some powertrain issue. I believe she's had the battery and electric motor replaced more than once. Each time is a few weeks wait for diagnosis and parts. She also only gets single digit range from the battery so unless your daily commute is super short, the PHEV part doesn't really help much. Unfortunately there isn't much to choose from in a real 7 seat PHEV. |
