After Repair Checklist

I’ve seen checklists for when taking delivery brand new. Anyone have any gems for when picking up after collision repair. I’m likely to be too excited to get in and drive home and will certainly overlook something.

Front end, so I’ll be checking hood lines, gaps, and overall paint. It was filthy when it went. Interior odor.

I'm no expert but with a front end collision, I would check front camera views, headlight aim, active headlight movement (turn steering wheel w/ headlights on), adaptive cruise control if so equipped, proper hood open/closure, front camera alignment, front turn signals functional, steering wheel alignment, front height sensors to ensure the car is level to bmw standards (slight rake), front parking sensors (pull up close to smthg to see if beeping alert is active), functional grille vents open and close automatically, paint match.

That's just me spit balling. Obviously depending upon how hard the impact was will either add or remove items from the list above. If a minor fender bender, you don't hv to go as deep down this list unless it was a more significant impact.

This is great, thank you.

I picked up this evening. Everything seems to have been repaired pretty well with exceptions to two items.

I am not 100% certain if my headlights are aligned properly, but I don't really have a before/after photo. I recall a recent thread about headlight alignment, but that may have been in the X3 forum. If anyone has a photo of what the light pattern looks like a few feet from garage door or wall or something, that may help me out.

The only other issue I see is that they replaced with the wrong grille. The flaps that fold inward aren't the right ones. Looks like the replacement have a chromium (or whatever BMW calls the matted chrome) stripe, whereas the original were all black. I also recall on this forum someone swapped out silver and gray grille parts. Is this portion of the grille easy to replace at home? I did on our X3M in minutes, but I am not sure if the X7 is more involved.

I've done the grille slats swap out before. It's not that difficult to do at home. You would just need to purchase a new or used chrome grille that has the matte finish inserts. Then you can either just swap out the entire grille it self or take the removal slats out of each grille and swap them. This will give you four different options to use as your front grille. My personal favorite out of the four options is black surround and cerium grey (I think that's the name of the color but not sure) slats.

All four different options pictured below for visual reference. Personally I like the all black option with your colored vehicle.

Also, if the shop didn't give you the grille that was originally on the vehicle, I would let them know so they can eat the cost and labor as it's not the original part.

Does the grille include the portion that opens to provide airflow? Or just the stationary parts. My issue is with the actual flaps.

Those are two separate parts. The shutters flaps are part of a larger overall housing:

Where the grill is just the outer trim:

Seems like they gave the housing/flaps for the M50i with Cerium trim, then the extended black shadowline "grille".

Yes that’s the part. Looks like it’s not a DIY at home. I just don’t want to have to deal with scheduling another appointment.
