Tire and wheel protection

My dealer screwed up the build on my x7 and got run flats instead of non-run flats. They offered to get me the space saver tire for free since it is their error. But are offering to let me purchase the tire and wheel coverage with cosmetic coverage for 5 years at $1735. They say that is the dealer price. Is it really the dealer price or they trying to screw me further???
Already had to replace a tire within the first 7 weeks thanks to a nail and the freaking run flats which no ones wants to patch even if it was a slow leak, the pressure never went below 33 psi and the integrity of the side wall was never compromised and it was not close to the edge.

Any input here guys n gals??? Thanks!!

All of the standard X7 wheel options are RF tires, except Option 1XL, Style 753 ferric grey Y-spoke 21"

Did they provide you with a build order sheet to review and sign off before submitting?

Tire and wheel coverage package and pricing varies from dealer to dealer and region. The coverage is offered by the dealer and whatever company or the dealer itself providing the coverage. It's not a BMW factory option so they can come up a package and pricing where they make a make a profit.

$1735 seems reasonable for 5 years, but since I lease I'm sure other members will chime in with their thoughts.

Thanks!!
They did send me via email (thanks to COVID). And it did not mention anything abt the wheels and that is when I asked them I was told it was RFs and the does not show on shortened window sticker copy he emailed me or something. So I asked them to switch to non-RFs with the space saver, which they confirmed they will. However when I took delivery of the vehicle it was not the case and the sale guys I worked with was not in that day. And of course the BMW genius did not know anything abt the build. It was then they realized they screwed up and the saga has been going on since then.

The only reason I ask about the price is I have heard here on bimmerpost abt people paying like $1250-$1500 for 5 year plans. I have no intention in letting the dealer walk away with even more profit after me not getting what I wanted in the first place. Unfortunately getting to know what other dealers offer is kinda hard as most of them say they cannot give me the coverage as it has to be purchased from the dealership I got the x7 from. So dead end there too!!

Ah gotcha and thank you for the context.

And understandable regarding the warranty prices. I would negotiate low given the RFT mixup despite then rectifying the issue. Good luck!

FYI. I managed to order a extra set of black 21” 752 with AS Continentals non-run flat for my winter/touring wheels. They ride really good and super smooth. My 22” 755M summer wheels are Continental run flats.

It's a reasonable price. I paid about the same last year for mine in NY. Ask them about the deductible and what it doesn't cover. Also, you need to negotiate as they will often reduce the price. In my experience in NY you basically break even but I like the peace of mind that I have coverage.

Maybe to get them to replace the wheels and tyres rather than accept something that is sub-par to you.

Why take a maintenance pack for what you don't want, get them to swap to what you ordered?

Have them swap the tires and get what you want. The ride is better with non run flats and worth pursuing.

i asked them and they said they can't swap them all 21' RFs, that would run like ~$2000 (i just replaced one tire thanks to a freaking nail)

instead they are asking me to get the warranty at SO CALLED DEALER PRICE!!

IMO, since it was their mistake, they should give you the protection package for free.

Yes they can. They just don’t want to do it and then to add insult wants you to pony up money for a warranty you don’t need on tires/wheels you don’t want. I would escalate this to the dealerships general manager.

Thanks MystroX5!!
I gotcha. i am not the aggressive and pushy kind when it comes to negotiations and i know I always end up on the loosing side. But this is BS i know. Gonna email them back and tell them to choke up for at least extended warranty at their cost even if they don't want to replace the tires. I am okay with either. Never wanted RFs just because no one ever want to freaking patch a nail leak even if they can and u always end up getting new tires. That is the primary reason i hate RF's. not worth to shell out $500/tire for small lame leaks, when it ain't.
I am not sure abt the ride quality difference as this is my first bimmer, sorry!! I feel it's good now.

Can you still purchase the protection plan after taking delivery? It was not offered when I purchased my X7. I emailed the dealership and was told I can't buy after pick up. Is that true?

May I ask how much exactly you paid for it? I live in NYC. If I can buy it after pick up I don't want to be over charged.

Do you have something in writing stating they would swap to run flats and add the spare tire kit? Adding run flats would be a dealer installed option either paid for in addition to the selling price or a dealer agreed concession, which should be documented in writing, along with the addition of a factory-installed spare tire kit.

Don't get me wrong, I hate run flats too, but there was no non-rft option for 21" wheels on our build. I will deal with them until they wear out and quite frankly I am surprised that they ride as well as they do.

The tire and wheel protection value can only be determined by you. Do you get flats often? If yes, at $500 a clip per non-repairable tire (which is bs) you will make up the value, quickly...if not...it's just insurance you thankfully never used.

I will try to find the exact amount but don't have it handy. I think it was $1,750. I bought my car from David Aviles in DC and I think insurance in NY will cost more. Never agree to the first price they will offer to you.

On 22" non run flat is not even an option. I asked the dealer if they could swap them before and he said no.
