I'm waiting for an X7 owner in South Carolina to post a picture of his car in a parking lot with no headlights...

They literally don’t allow electronics into the factory in South Carolina but somehow someone was able to walk out with a 4K dollar set of laser lights......🤣🤣🤣🤣

Coding only by the dealer is not necessarily true. Unless these parts are different than other similar parts on previous BMW models that require coding for a retrofit, these should be able to be coded using DIY coding tools like E-Sys or possibly BimmerCode. You just need to know the correct coding parameters to change (which may have not been discovered yet by the BMW coding community).

How does one add these lights to the build? I've gone through the US Configurator at least 50 times and I see no option to add these headlights to the build on a 2020 X7 40i.
Is it some big secret requiring a special dealer code and your first born to be able to add them as an option? Very frustrating indeed! I've already ordered my X7 and it's on the train in transit as we speak. So I'm guessing it's to late for me anyway. My sales person didn't even mention this as being an option. I suppose I could reject the order and make them order another one with the option but I'm guessing I would lose my 1K deposit at that point. |

Well that sucks! What's up with that? You'd think BMW would capitalize on the extra money and make it an option on the M40i.
I think they shot themselves in the foot on this one. The cost difference between the two isn't worth the added cost to upgrade to the M50i. Like most are already saying, the 6 banger is more than enough power for 99% of the population. So now, they have a great technology piece that's only available on a model that most people won't even buy. DUMB.... DUMB.... DUMB! Obviously some idiot marketing moron made this dumb decision. : |

Yeah... not available on the 40i. Only on the 50i and M50i. BMW does have to do something to differentiate models, and incentivize the purchase of the higher end model(s). Right now, everything that you can get on the M50i, you can get on the 40i, with the exception of the monster M50i engine, laser lights, the M sport differential, and I think that's it.

I also like to add that since laser lights are reduced to 300m in USA there is not much of a difference between those and LEDs, if anything I think the road signs are reflecting more lights back and became to bright for my taste. This would be task for 3M to figure this one out |

One other thing to add.... The full capability of the laser lights are neutered in the States anyway since the DOT has not approved the new tech in them. Same thing happened when the anti-dazzle LEDs first came out - the rest of the world enjoyed the new tech from the factory, but if you wanted to use it in the US, you needed to have your car coded to turn on that functionality. Coding is still required today for the LEDs and that tech is 3+ yrs old now.....

I think the standard LEDs on the X7 have this feature, but I am not sure. But as I said above, even if they do have this feature, I doubt DOT has approved them so you will still need coding in the US to use them.

... and I haven't heard of anybody yet that has been able to code the laser lights for full functionality in the US. Very interested if anybody does figure it out.
