I've owned classic cars before. Believe me, they are not great drives. People love the E30 M3 for nostalgia, rarity, icon value, but any modern hot hatch will run rings around one. They are great investment tho.

I owned an e30m3 for 13 years. It was a great car.......but would get smoked by a Honda Odyssey, but that’s not what the car was designed for. I would get a 1M because I already had an M3.

If you want to get noticed and have all the guys want to talk to you at a bmw meet, get the M3. If you want all the girls to talk to you, get the 1M.

Would love that but the wife will not.
Yeah the E30 is the type of car will drive into the sunset and carries many memorable moments.

I don't think many could tolerate an E30. Cars from that era are just not that great to use every day. zero tech, ton of interior noise from wind/tires.

These are driving experiences that could not be further apart from one another! If you are buying to drive honestly both are a no-go at more than $60K. Find something cherished and loved but used with some actual miles on it - carry the price tag difference to experience and repair the car.

The 1M is a modern classic no doubt and an extremely usable car, prices have tossed them straight into the weekend car only category and that is a shame.

You can use the 1M as you see fit. There's no reason to conform to what car culture recommends; or else we would also be driving around with cliched BBS wheels and wraps

The 1M has been my only car for almost 6 years. No issues. Nothing else I want. Love it more than ever!!!

Before the 1M I used to sit on eBay and Autotrader and do "pretend" shopping for other cars. I haven't done that in years since getting the 1M

Two of my classic favorites re the 2002 Turbo and the E30 M3. In today's market the M1 and the M2 are nice choices - it is personal choice and if it is an investment or a driver

To me, once a car gets to a certain age, the value isn't in the performance but the nostalgia value. The e30 M3 fits nicely in that category. For me, however, I never really liked the e30 M3---it was new when I was a kid. It looked great, but I was never impressed with the acceleration values and thus just kept drooling over 911s. To some degree, that impression has stuck with me. I wouldn't spend that kind of money on a car that I wouldn't enjoy all that much from behind the wheel. In this comparo, I'd go with the 1M. But I'm also not the biggest 1M fan either--though I like it more than the 1g M3.

In reality, I'd just keep driving my e92M. It's the best mixture of the power/performance I'm looking for and the specialness (IMO) of the e30M. Alternatively, I'd potentially be interested in a Z4 M coupe.

No contest. E30 M3 is everything that made the M division possible.
