MPE

Got mine a year ago and absolutely loving it. Sounds are more aggressive and deep, way cheaper and more accessible, good looking tips.

Now in same dilemma!

Options are:

1. Akra fitted with build ready for delivery in September

2. Get M5 delivered then retro fit the Performance exhaust post delivery

I definitely want quiet in comfort and then loud in Sport Plus.

Leaning towards Akra due to being able to close valves but love the look of the Performance exhaust.

Any body with further views?

Is the MPE exhaust the same as people are referring to with the BMW titanium exhaust? I have MPE but would like something a little louder on my LCI.

The MPE is not a complete titanium system; only the muffler is titanium with the rest of the piping stainless steel. The Akrapovic is a complete titanium system; lighter, better fit and finish, and resale value than the MPE.

Sound is subjective and similar in both systems.

Just installed the Akra on my 21 LCI Comp and absolutely love it. IMHO the carbon tips are the best looking ones on the market. It's sounds amazing with WOT and with the valves closed I can leave the neighborhood without fear of waking my neighbors.

Hi, I have been told by the company I want to use that the Akra isn't ready for the 21 LCI but if you have yours fitted then I'm assuming they are talking rubbish? I'm in the UK?

So now had 2 companies tell me Akraprovic are still doing R&D on the 2022 F90 and as such an exhaust isn't available yet and no date confirmed when it will be available! That sucks, was hoping to get stock exhaust changed pretty quickly.

Curious as to what they're doing R&D on given the platform is essentially unchanged AFAIK. Maybe it is something specific to Europe.

So update from Akraprovic, the 2022 version should be ready by end of November, so booked for December and pray I'm not a guinea pig!

You are in the U.S, and the people responding aren't. They have cars with OPF, the U.S doesn't. There are two different part numbers for OPF and non-OPF cars.

Akrapovic builds OE and aftermarket to the same standard and they are a BMW Motorsports partner. If they took the time to make a revision, they determined there was a difference between the previous part and want to do it the right way. You'll be fine.

The valves are opened and closed by the computer based on the M settings and speed. The exhaust button is NOT an open vs closed switch for the valves. I tested this specifically before I got my MPE.
Makes sense why I've never noticed a difference in exhaust sound with the button pressed. But idk if that is fully accurate. Why would it default to on? Exhaust at start up is louder with It on than off. No burbles and farts on start up soooo.

Either way I'm going to try this tomorrow. M1 with Sport+ for engine and button depressed. We'll see how many pops I get.

💯 If you have the button off in Sport + it is more muted w/o the overrun and pops and burbles. I use this all the time when I'm in my neighborhood as I drive in Sport + 99% of the time.

I'm running an iPE full cat-back and it scares the sh*t out of people all the time.

Seems like the button also turns off (or quiets) the fake speaker noise.

Oh I coded that off day 1. Albeit the pathetic oem exhaust sounded much better with it on. Haha

My bad forgot about OPF on Euro spec cars

That’s correct, it indeed does.

One thing to consider as a valid difference between the two exhausts practically speaking is the cold start. On the MPE, cold start is vicious, all the time every time, given there are no valves to close. Neighbors may not appreciate this.

The fact that Akra is still valved means you can start in efficient mode and the cold start will be considerably quieter than the MPE.

Note: I owned an MPE on this platform, and loved it. My wife and neighbors, and their small children however, did not appreciate the cold start AT ALL.

FWIW.
