2024 X7 xDrive40i 3K Mile Assessment
I thought I would share my assessment of the X7. Please feel free to comment and/or offer additional observations.
Love: - Quiet drive - Smooth ride - BW audio - Hwy Assistant (works even in complex construction zones) . . . . EXCELLENT! Not a vehicle fault, but I get nervous in close quarters - Auto-Lane Change - 5 MPG improvement over my Aviator & more power - 0 reliability issues - Other than an extremely minor door panel flaw, build quality is perfect - Rough road ahead warning - Braking for obstacles when parking - Capacitive sensing steering wheel (No need to apply force to maintain assisted driving) Dislike: - Menu system - Limited HUD data - Oil filter access - Owner's Manual - No electronic rearview mirror - Inconsistent dealer policies - Unless Lock on Departure is set, interior lights stay on for a while - Route related speed control option causes unwarranted slowdowns Hate: - Unlike other US vehicles new posted speed requires manual adoption in Speed Limit Assistant. Safety Hazard & Ticket potential - No automatic lowering for entrance or exit; too high! - Customer Service Refuses to answer emails, and won’t discuss corrective action applicability. You should try the X7 40d. You can go up to 1100 miles (ca. 1,770 km) with a single tank on the highway. It also comes with 517 lbf-ft torque (700 nm) with quad-turbo.

What makes it even more strange is that Auto Speed Limit adoption is available elsewhere and other vehicles sold in the US have had it available for years. 1st image is US 2nd is eleswhere.

I've noticed both on my MB and on my X7 that some speed limit signs get falsely interpreted. Most frequently, it's the sign on the outskirts of town where the speed limit is 35 or 40 mph, and the sign warns that the speed limits on all city streets are 25 mph unless otherwise posted. Both cars display 25 mph and then give me an over-speed indication. School zones where the posting is "15 mph when flashing" always cause a similar error. Maybe the Germans just can't figure out U.S. signage.

Nice review! What audio have you had before the B&W system?

I think the new idrive 8 is fine. Took me a couple hours of playing with it, but I've got all the menus down now. I thought I would miss the buttons, but actually it's not a big deal. The 1-8 shortcut buttons are still there in the menu. You simply kick the idrive controller forward and the list drops down. And the climate is the same way. It is an extra step from buttons, but I can deal with it. I'm not sure why they make you scroll the climate choices. Could have made the icons a little smaller and it would have all fit.
The only weird thing I don't like... when I press the BC button it cycles through the 3 trip menus and then won't go away. I have to press the menu choice button on the right side to pick other information to be displayed. Why can't the bc button simply cycle through all those choices? Am I missing something? |

I really wanted the digital rear view mirror. Unfortunately my Mazda CX-9 doesn't have it...the 2024 CX-90 does.
They sell them on Amazon...some people installed them in their cars. Has anyone done that here? Anyway I'm wondering about the cables possibly being visible...I'm also wondering if it would affect the warranty. My friend has it in her Cadillac Escalade...she loves it! IMO...it is a safety feature! |

I have looked at those for the X7. I doubt you would be happy with the installation or appearance. |

It is really a safety feature as it gives a much wider view of the traffic behind your car. It should be standard on all cars... |

I find it interesting you think the HUD data is lacking. What do you think it's missing? Now I only have the 2022 but I wouldn't think it's that different.

A couple of examples are time and outside temperature although it is possible I missed a setting or so. I feel more comfortable when I don't have to take my eyes off the road to look at the instrument display.
