XM at Costco

Thought this was pretty funny. They have an XM outside the Costco I go to as an advertisement for their Costco dealership program. Nothing more cringeworthy than people leaving their carts right up on it

Those things aren't selling, so it looks like they are trying anyway possible to get rid of them.

My dealer has 3 of them! $500k of ugliness, I mean uniqueness. Maybe they should offer a free 3 series if you buy one.

Today, I was at one of our local dealership for a BMW “M” event. Out of 5 models to test drive they had two XMs that nobody even wanted to test drive. My brother was the only person wanting to drive them so we did. It rode horrible. Like way to harsh/stuff for such a heavy SUV. It was very fast in a straight line, sure. Another dealership closer to me had 3 when they came out, they are still on the lot. I have yet to see one on public roads here.

A $160K (that's 2 x i40 X7's) lux SUV that will never make any beneficial impact on climate change or carbon reduction -- exclusively a virtue and affluence signaling vehicle.

Yep same here in Central NY. Dealer has 3 in the showroom. They have been there for the last 2-3 months. Zero interest. I would imagine discounts would be coming soon on them.

BMW already provides huge discounts / promotion for XM, the new ugly M2 and any BMW car with Brooklyn Gray color (probably it's because of the cheap paint cost). These are the worst selling at BMW and heavily promoted by BMW marketing for several months.

And Toyota is getting hammered by the climate crowd investors for not jumping into the EV market and producing cars buyers don't want. Mr. Toyoda knows what he's doing.

This is true. At my local BMW dealership, their first XM is still on the lot. They try shifting it to more noticeable and prominent locations around the dealership frequently, but honestly I feel like that just repels prospective BMW buyers of any model who drive by ... Doesn't set a good tone at all.

I have seen one XM on the road near Austin (actually the windy hill country road near my house) my teen daughter refers to the XM as the nightmare pig, and I laughed at her saying that. The driver saw and looked really offended. I suppose being laughed at by a woman in a Porsche is the least of his worries, but his offense made me laugh a bit harder.

Same for BMW of Plano, near Dallas. I saw at least 3 while I was there last time for service. Got to sit in one on the floor, but didn't want to drive it. The backseat is pretty spacious and you do feel like they spent the money on the materials.

But at $165K to $170K MSRP, none of them are selling it seems in the Dallas areas as I haven't seen any on the roads or in the more upscale shopping areas and neighborhoods around here that I've been too or drive by. You can't miss them, as they're pretty obnoxious.

savagegeese did a great review on one of them...they are pretty spot on in their assessment. Cool hybrid tech drivetrain, poorly executed in design and driving dynamics though, overpriced, marketed to people with money who want to be seen more than be a driver, and so forth.

You can get $17k off an XM these days without asking.

Seems to explain the missing BMW badge on the boot.

Anyone think the upcoming high hp model will do better? I just don’t think the design feels or looks $150k+. I found the large plastic cap covering the lugs on the wheels incredibly cheap feeling. I went over one for about 45 minutes while I was getting an oil change and couldn’t see myself paying anything north of $100k and I am their buying demographic if it wasn’t a hybrid. Way too small inside for such a bloated vehicle.

Anyone know why BMW has moved the nomenclature badge over to the left side when for decades it was on the right side?

This was a nod to the first M car years ago because the BMW is on the right.

I did the same thing at my dealer about a month go. It looks like a Dolled Up Humvee. On top of that, if you want them to unlock the top speed you have to pay $2500.00! Total BMW fail!!!

They should have made it a limited production run. And the only one they should have offered should have been the bigger horsepower label model. Maybe claim they were only going to make 1,000/year or something. Then some goofballs would have jumped all over them and BMW could have claimed they did something right. But this thing is looking to go down as a colossal fail at this point.
