Damn, those bikes rev to 18,000RPM!? Woah.

Better yet, spend $1.5 million and buy a Bugatti Veyron. Then you can race everyone and everything on the road and win. Including race bikes. Just imagine smoking a Jap race bike in a full-size car. The guy would feel humilated for the rest of his life!

agreed....just "that feeling"...something about a bike that no car can reproduce...no matter how fast

The highest revving 600 is the 2006 Yamaha R6 which has a redline at 17,500rpm but actually hits the limiter at ~16,200. Still pretty high though.

My 1,000cc R1 makes 183bhp and revs to 13,750. 0-100mph in ~5 seconds

No sh!t. I really want an R1. My girlfriend and family gets pissed whenever I mention that I want to get a bike (especially one with 180 bhp and 379 lbs ). Post some pics, I'll post some when I get mine..

The unique thing about this car is that it's electric, the torque from a dead stop will be at 100%, and it will be so quiet, that I bet all you'll hear is the whine from the gears and it's occupants screaming.

R1's are nice but they aren't the top choice in superbikes anymore. The only thing that the R1 has over the other bikes in it's class is looks. Wait for the R1's replacement or get the current R1 if you aren't into bragging rights.

The R1 was the top dog from 1998-2000, then the GSX-R1000 took the title until the re-designed 2004 R1 came out. That only lasted 1 year because the 2005 GSX-R1000 (my bike) cleaned up shop. The 2004 Kawi ZX10 was also improved to a level greater than the R1, and in 2006, the Honda CBR1000 also improved above the R1's level. Now we have the new for 2006 ZX10 which is the most powerful of the liter bikes but most (if not all) still give the nod to the GSX-R because of its better power delivery and handling. Either way, the R1 is a great bike and it’s the rider's skill that separates the bikes, not the actual bikes.

The modern 1,000 bikes are close in performance and demand an expert rider to even approach their capabilities on a track let alone the street. Tony is right that the R1 is no longer top dog and that the Suzuki usually wins the comparos, but be assured that the margin is very small.

You won't go wrong just choosing the one you like the most. I'm an ex-road racer and don't have much trouble sticking with most people on my relatively out of favor R1 To me it is the best looking (esp. in the yellow / black limited edition scheme) and that was an important consideration (same for the BMW too).

Mine was $10,000 about $10,850 when all was done and said. The best bike? ZX10, GSX-R, CBR, R1. Pick your poison they are all great bikes.

The Top Bikes are so close in performance that the actual difference in performance isn't as important as other items.

It all boils down to:
1) Current experience with bikes (new riders shouldn’t get anything more than a 600 IMO Also, Take the MSF Course)
2) Maturity Level (If you are into showing off all the time, then it’s only a matter of time before you go down, get a 600. you wont go down as hard and fast)
3) Which bike is more comfortable?
4) Which bike do you think looks the best?
5) Brand Loyalty

My recommendation would be a 2004-2006 GSX-R750

Hell yeah Tony. I had a 2005 suzuki GSXR 750 in yellow and black. Too bad mine is totalled though. I think that is the perfect sports bike. It has some of the qualities of the 600 bikes where you have the instant acceleration and lower weight, but then still have a bit of top end power of the 1000 liter bikes as well. As far as performance goes between the same class of bikes, Motorcyclist and Sport Rider magazine have all pretty much stopped naming winners of which bike is better. The bikes are all very similar, and it just goes down to what you said. Which one do you think looks better, brand loyalty, street cred, etc.

I'll try to post some pics and vids of my bike tomarrow

Oh yeah? What would you rather be on at the end of the day? A BMW or a Honda/Yamaha/Kawasaki/Suzuki?
