I'm also not a fan of the running boards from an appearance perspective, but I can see why that would help entry/exit, especially with young kids. Wish they came in all black or something less conspicuous.
Trailer hitch and space saver spare are two options I'd think about adding if you think you'd ever need them. |

We opted out of running boards despite two small children. I rented an X5 for a bit with them and hit my legs on it all week; I’ll be getting in and out much more than the kids or my wife as it’s my DD. Also, we live an area with a bit of snow and slush and were cautioned both tended to accumulate on the boards. Wish they had automated ones.
There are a number of threads on tires that speak to the advantages of the spare tire, even with run flats. That convinced me to get it as well. In the end it helps if a big issue with the tire and saves money if I move from run flats (as the spare is priced cheaper than building your own). I was also talked into the trailer hitch based on potential difficulty and expense of doing this post build. We’ll use it for bike racks. Note that you loose the kick activated hatch with the hitch. |

I still hate them. They are narrow and not very useful, especially for adults. Kids, fine I guess. If I could go back, I would not get them and would have installed aftermarket powered ones.

Yeah, $4650 does seem like a lot. I'm surprised bmw doesn't make leather standard in their flagship suv. I was thinking maybe they were giving an option, but if you order the V8 then you don't have a choice. Weird.
