Called BMW Genius again..still scheduled for 24th week of June (she said that was June 6, it's actually June 13). When I asked if BMW factories shut down production in June for retooling, she said that is not true at all.

I'm starting to wonder if BMW Genius is not genius at all, or why all this information doesn't add up.

Given that CADK works at a dealership and got the official BMW bulletin about the shut down, I would believe him over the "geniuses".

BMW factories do typically shut down and retool in June, so it's not unheard of by any means.

I know it does not always take a full month to retool. One model year change they did it over a weekend. So sounds like more speculation, esp since build dates are in June...

Given that it is an official bulletin provided by a BMW dealership employee and confirmed by my GM here in Canada, I would hardly call it speculation.

One thing to note is that they specifically said 'no M2 production', so there's a good possibility that they could be building other cars post-retooling, just not M2's.

The speculation is from David1 and 89alpinem3 who don't seem to know what they are talking about.

May allocations given out in April, no allocations given out in May as plant will be shutdown for month of June. Sometime in June allocations for July/August/September will be released to dealers.
Would a June allocation mean your car is MY2017? Or is that the last batch of 2016? My CA did say I should expect a Q3 delivery.

If they do produce anything in June... that would be on the fence. But Q3 starts in July.

May is the last batch of MY16. Any car built after May will be MY17.

Oh I would assume they arent producing anything in June. But if produced in Jul-Sept, does that make it a 2017?

I was originally given a date of June 19th or so I believe as the cutoff for a car being 2016 vs 2017. Since the factory is now idled for most of June, I think it's safe to say that if you don't currently have an allocation, you're very likely to get a 2017.

We're all in the same boat, possibly higher MSRP, definitely one year less on the warranty, and definitely no brakes/clutch. So by making us wait we're out a few thousand before any price increase, since I imagine the brakes and massive rotors are not at all cheap.

Mine didn't mention the memo either. Why tell you that you have no allocation AND that you're getting a '17. Maybe they'll soften the blow by telling you in June along with an allocation.

Again, as has been discussed on this Board for quite awhile, it's not one year less in warranty. It's one year less in the free maintenance plan.

My "speculation " comes from my close friend who worked as a production engineer in Ragansburg for several years and still as many friends there. So I do know what I'm talking about, I also never said they shut down June 1st I said they shut down in June. It's also not just retooling but work to any machines that may need it.

Can someone clarify if this is correct? Hard to decipher usable information amid all the bickering and speculation.

May 10 (yesterday) - Dealers did not receive any M2 allocations.

June 10 - Dealers will receive allocations for model year 2017 M2. Those vehicles will be built in July, August, and September.

Correct?
