What all-season tire is best for skiing?
Hi there, I'm interested in finding out what type of all-season tire people recommend for the 755M rims. We'll be using the X7 for skiing every weekend and want a tire that can handle various weather conditions.

Plenty of threads on this. There isn’t a standard staggered all-season tire setup for the 22” wheel. Either need to go with winter tires or a square setup that isn’t exactly ideal. Or get 21” wheels where there are many all-season tire options.

If you're going to be using it that often, then the best thing is to get a separate set of wheels and snow tires.

If you're going to be going skiing frequently you really should get a separate set of winter tires. They are vastly superior to all seasons (and same in the other direction - I switched from the factory summer tires to all seasons and there was a huge reduction in traction on normal warm days).
There is an upfront cost... but each set of tires lasts twice as long (since you're putting half the mileage on one set and half the mileage on the other) so your long term tire cost isn't much higher. And you can sell the winter wheels when you replace the X7, there's a healthy market for used wheels & tires. You can also get a 21" or 20" wheel for the winter tires, the staggered 22s are not ideal for snow because they're so wide in the rear. Plus they have very little sidewall. |
