The long awaited BMW X7 flagship SUV is due in 2018, as BMW has now tipped. Speaking at the New York Auto Show last week, BMW sales and marketing director Ian Robertson said that the X7 "won't arrive this year or next, but it's well through the development phases."

As for styling? The best we have to go off of right now is a teaser image released by BMW in a recent presentation (image above) and the recent words of Ian Robertson who also revealed this at the NY Auto Show: "There’s very little resemblance to the X5, so it's not an extended wheelbase X5. It’s very different – we wanted it to have its own identity."

As the flagship SUV in BMW's lineup, the X7 will also be offered in an even higher luxury version. "We will make a higher luxury version of it as well. So in the same way as you take a 7 Series and you bring in the Individual bespoke service as with Rolls Royce," says Robertson.

When the seven seater X7 comes to market in 2018, it will be produced at the U.S. Spartanburg plant.

Yay BMW. Only 10 years too late...

I'm still amazed as to why it took so long for it to come to market. The Benz GL has been cashing in for a decade.

Get this X7 on the road ASAP and true halo supercar please

I assume an X8 "Coupe" will follow it eventually and become the new flagship.

Either way, about freakin time !

Sales-wise in North America at the very least, this will be an instant success

So judging by how far back the rear door handle is and the very short rear overhang, I take it this won't be a similar size and layout to the GLS? The rear behind the rear door looks almost as short as an X1. it almost looks like an X1 under the sheet..maybe they just threw that in there for the picture's sake and its not really an X7 under there

Pricing will have to do a lot with it too. The GL sells sell. If they price the X7 significantly higher than the GL then I think it will be a dud.

Expanding a factory in SC to accommodate building the X7 takes some time to plan and build.

As the owner of a new Denali XL for our family of 6 I will be interested in this when it finally arrives. I would prefer to have an all BMW household if possible

Hmmm

"There?s very little resemblance to the X5, so it's not an extended wheelbase X5. It?s very different ? we wanted it to have its own identity.

Although, I can't wait to see it. We don't believe you, you need more people! I've heard these words before with the M3 M4.

No one would.. Until BMW makes one and people end up buying it lol. Remember when the X6 came out and what the reaction was like to that? Now, everywhere I go, people love it.

Wouldn't look similar to an X5? BMW please!!!! all your vehicles look almost identical. X1 through X5 look 99% identical.
Anyway, seems from this small group that there is perhaps some interest in this X7. I personally will easily pass. No spank you

How are you liking the Denali? Probably going to buy one in the next 3-5 months. I wish this X7 was already available.
