I think X7 looks nice both outside and inside. But I was disappointed by 3rd row space in X7 as it was small compared to GLS. I need more space and will likely go for GLS or 2020 Defender (it can seat 8 people)

I have a Tesla x and s. The large screen is fine but it isn't that great after using it for a while. Tesla has its moment but they have a lot to work on. Sometimes you just want physical buttons. I am trading in my x for an x7 . (And I will actually get CarPlay) Because of all their issues. Bmw design inside and out is better imo than the mb. I could never get over the four vents right next to each other. That just looks awful imo. The third row window in the back looks way better due to the HK. BMW looks like more of an SUV than the MB. MB has more rounded lines which makes me think of a minivan.

I'm not a fan of the direction BMW has gone with their front ends. The kidney grilles don't scale up as nicely as some other shapes. And the lower valance, like on the new 3 as well, is overly stylized as Toyota is apt to do. I hope they improve the next M3/4.

Greg, you have been a BMW buyer for some years so your perspective is different than mine. But being new to the brand I thought the grills looked tiny for many years especially on the X5. The newest X5 grill looks proportionately correct to my eyes. I feel the same about the X7. Putting a smaller grill on a large SAV wouldn't make sense to me. I also think the new 8 series Alpina with the larger grill looks terrific. I assume BMW loyalist don't care for it but for newcomers to the brand (like me), this was a needed change to be competitive with the overall market. Many car companies are doing larger and larger grills.

On smaller BMWs I get that smaller grills may look better but for their larger SAV's and full-size cars, a larger grill just looks better IMO. I actually think BMW is on the right track, time will tell.

Is your GLE still slated to land at the dealership next Wednesday?

Grille or Grill

I am in the overlapping part of the Venn Diagram in terms of who like and don't like the grill.

I always wanted to know why BMW exaggerated it for this generation of vehicles.

I wanted to ask a few question.

Would said grill prevent you from buying?

If the grill was more toned down with same styling, will the current vehicles be more appealing and/or sporty?

I ponder upon these thoughts because I am of the mindset it brings me to the Bangle era, like I'll pass on this generation. Will BMW regret enhancing the grill? I'm sure consumers will stand pat and watch from a distance until something more sexy comes along.

Thoughts?

I agree the grille size should be in proportion to the vehicle, but to my eyes the kidney shape of BMW's does not look as good as MB's or some others at that scale. Maybe because I started with a '73 2002 which had tiny ones! As I said, the lower valance is also overly wrought, IMO.

My car should be to dealer by next Saturday, I hope.

The new gen Merc SUV designs look unresolved to me, they are however killing it with their sedan designs

Where did you see NO remote start? Listed as standard in the DOG.

Our 2017 GLS 550 had remote start, wouldn't know why MB would exclude it from the new GLS.

It’s standard on the GLS 450 and 580 in Canada.

Ah, seeing it now. I was looking at the optional equipment.

That still leaves IAS and rear entertainment missing if I'm not mistaken..

I'm not sure though that this can be considered as "rear seat entertainment". After all, it's only 7" in size and there is only one.

Luxury in the new GLS is shared generously among all passengers, particularly if the Executive Rear Seat Package is ordered. It includes a 7-inch Android tablet in its own docking station in the second row's larger luxury center armrest. The tablet allows control of all MBUX comfort and entertainment functions (see next section) from the rear seat rows, such as access to the radio, media, phone and a web browser. It can also be used to control the Executive Rear Seat Package and the five-zone automatic climate control for the rear seats. The driver can seamlessly assume control of all options and features from his or her seat at any time too.

It also doesn't sound like that single tablet can be used to watch videos. More a control device, like a big remote control.
