CAR and DRIVER TESTS X7 50i

This month's Car and Driver gives a pretty favorable review of the X7. They clocked a 0-60 mph time of 4.6 seconds! Plus they got 3 mpg higher than the rated mpg.

4.6 seconds! Must be the M?

I believe this is the link,

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...v-first-drive/

"But this is America, so a 456-hp twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8 provides the muscle in the xDrive50i. Its plateau of 479 pound-feet of torque starts way down at 1500 rpm and extends all the way to 4750. We expect the sprint to 60 mph to take a short 4.6 seconds when the X7 is equipped with the V-8 and a still-respectable 5.5 seconds with the six-cylinder.

The upcoming version with 523hp is factory rates at 4.5 sec to 60

The Car&Driver issue on the X7 is the Aug. issue. I haven't found a link yet.

You're right and as you said the up coming 523hp will likely hit those low 4sec numbers.

The Car&Driver Aug issue will not be online yet, unless you buy a digital copy.

I have attached a screenshot of the article.

The test vehicle is limited to 130mph due to all season tires.

Also, not sure if it has DHP.

Enjoy.

Interesting...thanks for sharing.

If the 50i gets to 60 in 4.6secs, why buy a M50i?

My guess is that M50i will be slightly quicker.

I confirmed with a technician from DME Tuning last night. The N63T3 engine in 50i/M50i generates a lot more than BMW's 455/480 number. More like 539/589, according to Diana.

That would make sense since C&D found the 50i to be faster. Just thinking back to my 450GLS that MB stated 6.1 and C&D said 5.7

BMW power numbers are typically higher than advertised. Hence the reason they usually outperform the acceleration times in real world vs BMW marketing brochure.
