Any Reason NOT to buy a new 2019MY now
Ive asked a similar question on the X5 forum (about a 2019 X5 )
My original intention was to buy an X5 but as often happens ive been side tracked. Ive been offered an attractive deal (by UAE standards) on a pretty high spec X7 40i the bottom line cost is little more than what I would spend on an X5. I have an identical spec on an extended test and have to say I love it (who wouldnt !) Firstly - is there any reason not to buy a new 2019 MY (June 2019) now ? Any major changes or issues that affect 2019 models ? Secondly - I dont actually 'need' such a large vehicle but my preference is to drive one, I dont lug kids around, on a daily basis its me driving to work and in leisure time its me and my wife. Occasionally take adult passengers. The X5 would be perfectly good for me however because of the tempting deal I'm leaning towards the X7. Has anyone else been tempted to upsize and have any regrets ? or indeed the opposite. Thoughts appreciated Apologies for making the post long but have pasted the spec below and would also value input / thoughts. Similar story here. I was originally looking at an X5 (pretty loaded) and decided for the minor uptick in costs, moving to an X7 made sense both for the room and the utilitarian factor.
No regrets on my side. The 40i is more than powerful for our family needs. |

I've had my X7 for two months now and love. I recently drove an X5 loaner for a few days while my windshield was being replaced and it really made me appreciate the X7 even more. The overall size of the car is not that much larger but the interior and extra space is noticeable. If you are driving people in the 2nd or 3rd row they will appreciate the extra space. I didn't think the handling was that noticeable and frankly I'm not racing around back roads in this car anyway. That said it does handle quite well for a large SUV and the build quality and comfort is top notch.
On the 2019 vs. 2020 there were some minor changes but nothing that should hold you back if the deal is right. If it is a purchase just understand that we are already more than half way through 2020 model year and by the fall this car will be two years old from a resale perspective. If you are not leasing it I would think the discount might need to be 20+% to avoid being underwater after the used value drops. |

Get the x7 over the x5. But with a June 2019 x7; it's been sitting for almost 1 year and that's not good. Also x7 was all new in 2019. Usually it's best to avoid year 1 and get a late generations in the cycles.
The biggest difference for me was the x5m has dynamic handling; and the x7 is all air. It's not even an option for regular sport handling. However it's a family hauler. The closest thing BMW will have to a minivan. It's way comfortable, just not sporty. I have a family and we need a big haulers. So if you're in the same boat, get an x7. But if it's a 2019, you need at least 20%+ off MSRP minimum. I'd negotiate for around minimum 25% off plus all weather mats on all 3 rows and trunk; and full warranties for 7 years and full tire and wheel insurance ALL included for an OTD price around 20%+ under Invoice. They are desperate to sell now, but production is being reduced so while supply is dropping so is demand. Also with the shut down less people are buying. I'd think that you can get a great deal done now. |

However if you want a sporty SUV, go x5. If you want the big boy, get x7. Also a Tahoe is similar to an x7 for towing things like a boat. If you want the luxury of a 7 series sedan in an SUV, get x7. If you want the sporty of an m3 or m4, get the x5. If you're looking for full power of an m5, get the m8comp. |

Lots of interesting thoughts
100% want an SUV Couple of differences here compared to Europe or US Firstly 2 dealers have monopoly over the whole UAE so not that easy to get a good discount unless they want to shift vehicles quickly (as is the case here). Secondly what tends to happen is that the dealers usually bulk order with identical spec and different colour / interior options, usually a mid range spec and then a pretty high spec. Its infrequent for a factory order. The only 2020 X7 I can get is full option and almost full price and more than I want to spend so the only option for me on the X7 is to take the 2019 at just shy of 30% discount. The only 2020 X5 40i I can currently get is what I would describe is a mid spec M Sport, its very nice but lacks 2 things I want which is comfort seats and Air suspension. I can get a high spec X5 40i M Sport but its 2019 built 6/19 at a good discount. What to do !! First world problems |

the base x7 is better and more comfortable than top x5 for "luxury". I think you want luxury and comfort; so I'm going to say, buy the 2019 x7 40i |

I bought my wife 2019 X7 40i loaded in June 2019. It is awesome ride and spacious for us with 2 kids. But for myself, I been looking and spec'ting X5 M50i. I am looking for sporty but with some space. Unfortunately, my X5 is getting more expensive than X7 I bought my wife.

Lots to think about ...... even longer to think now as the dealer has effectively closed until further notice due to the current situation. However they were kind enough to have given me an extended test just before closure and have left me with a demo X7 to play with, that said I cant drive it that much with the restrictions in place here, but I'm having a good play whilst its parked on the drive with the tech to catch up with the differences from my old F15

I've searched and can't see an answer ...... are the front seats in X7 and X5 exactly the same size ?

Ja, identical seats used in both vehicles - standard sport seats, 20-way multi-contour and 20-way multi-contour with ventilation and massage (Luxury seating package).

Yeah, pretty sure the front seat area of the interior is identical between the X5 and X7. Identical leg room, virtually identical headroom, same dash and layout, etc. It's the 2nd row and especially 3rd row that are different between the two.

They tend to spec their cars much better than AGMC. As for the comparison X7 Vs X5 Let's get down to basics a bit. An X7 is basically you driving a classy 7 series on larger SUV form. An X5 is like driving an executive 5 series again on an SUV form. As everyone else have stated. if you want to turn heads and be in extra luxury , go X7. if you want to drive "Bin Sulayem" style go X5 Either way you won't go wrong. Best of luck.

Interestingly on the X7 the Abu Dhabi stock is older (built Feb 19) and missing a couple of options but the X5 is higher spec albeit some options I'm not bothered about. It's a strange situation as they both seem to be selling 2020 models quite well and in fact both offered 2020 models before discussing the older ones, I guess they must have over ordered early models or not sold so well last year. All of that said right now I can't drive anything that much because of the current restrictions on travel here.

These travel restrictions are all over the place. I'm guessing they Dealers would like to save themselves the big discounts on the older models. That being said, I would double check if AD motors are still giving crazy officers discounts on top of what they are offering on the 2019's like they used to back in the days. Maybe this will sway you in the right direction 🧭 Or even make you consider a fully loaded X5M with a decent discount

When we sat down and thought about it ... I used the 7 seats in my LR Discovery twice in 2.5 years and rear seat passengers one time every couple of months if that so I'm sure we'll be ok ..... ended up limited choice of colours in the X7 that I could take on a good deal whereas X5 I had a good choice and also save a bit of cash. I viewed the one I'll probably buy earlier today still with much of its shipping wrap on. Was built June 25 and arrived at the port dockside in UAE on 9 December, so has been sitting around longer before it arrived here. I'll post some pics on the X5 forum.

I have a 2019 Discovery that is about to be bought back by the manufacturer due to more than 70 days in the shop over 12 months. I'm currently trying to decide between leasing a 2019 x7 5.0 (with cold weather and premium package) vs a 2020 x7 4.0 with dynamic handling and cold weather. There is a difference of about $75/month lease price due to the dealership wanting to move the 2019. I would have to make a decision in the next few hours because they are closing tomorrow for the next few weeks. Which car do I go with?
