BMW X7 testing using modified 7 Series prototype

Yes, this looks like a next generation G11 7 Series prototype. But, look closer and you will see BMW has ingeniously added weights to the roof (and inside the car) and raised the hood to accommodate a different engine/intake setup in order to "test" the basic X7 drivetrain package.

The X7 will be a seven seater SAV and has already been announced for production at the Spartanburg plant in the future.

Hmmmm, even with the weights on the roof, I don't really see it as an SAV. Nice work on the camo I guess, lol.

Either way...., I don't see this as being much of an improvement for the brand. Time will tell.

I see a true 7 seater SAV as a huge improvement for the brand from a business prospective. The X5 50 is already 80k with options and doesn't provide families the space that full size SUV's offer (often at a lower price range).

Dat powr bulge

Seriously though, I'd kind of expected them to be further along with this. It's obviously been in planning stage for quite some time.

Maybe that's an M7 with a hood blower.

Absolutely correct. I would have loved a true seven seater but went outside of the brand because of this gap. I look forward to adding a X7 in my garage in the future to replace my current SUV from the Other brand we do not mention here

Nice photos Dackelone. No interior shots?

Kind of looks like a raised minivan to me. I know there's a lot of camo though still.

Hey that's the street that I used to have my apartment when living in Munich. On the left banks of the river Isar.

That car looks funky (trying to imagine away the camouflage).

Agree.

Billup is near sighted.

The competition has beaten out BMW in this segment.

Whoa Dackelone- is this the X7?????

From what I see it is a stretched X5 which would be a HUGE disappointment.

@Scott26 promised us the X7 would be a unique development. Is he lying?

It's quite possible they are- but that they don't want to share the styling, yet.

That is because it is an old X5 prototype.
The X7 is not using its actual body yet. But will soon.

There is some extended X5 mules heading to Spatanburg...@ @Palbay be mindful...

Very soon all X vehicles will be offered with standard and extended wheelbases with up to seven seats. Starting with the X1 and then the X3.

This is the latest X7 render. But do not be alarmed. This is not the actual car.
Its just an extended X5.

Minivan. Perhaps I'm being closed minded but I don't see how it could ever look like anything other than a minivan either. BMW SAV styling is very "vannish" in general, and doing a long van styled SAV would equate to a minivan raised up a couple inches.

The X7 is really going to have to up the game if the X5 will come as a 7 seat X5L....

Didn't they say launch in the 2017 model year which would be June'ish of 2016.

BMW missed the boat by waiting this long. This should have been out before the X4 and X6.
