Trunk trying to close when sitting on tail gate?

Watching my son’s soccer practice using the tail gate. Every minute the car beeps and attempts to shut the hatch on me before stopping. Any idea on how to stop that? It’s totally random.

Haven't experienced that, but half the time while leaning against the tailgate to reach for an item, my thigh hits the close button and anything sitting on the tailgate gets dumped inside. Fortunately, no drink containers.

Is it possible that your legs or something are dangling down and triggering the kick sensor? Otherwise something might be hitting the button, weird that it happens randomly like that.

It may have been the dangle. Will try again.

I wonder who the moron is (or hopefully was) at BMW who signed off on the location for that button. Just doesn't make any sense.

Yep the button should have been inside the boot, near the seat release controls etc.

Similarly, the parcel tray retract button is close to the luggage hook and I often end up pressing the former when hanging shopping bags on the hook.

At first thought, both button locations seem convenient but a bit of use shows otherwise.

This is still happening, I’m sitting on the opposite side of the button. It turns out the dangling feet seem to hit the sensor down there especially if you seesaw your legs like many do on a tail gate.

I would deactivate the kick sensor. I have never used that kick feature on my last X5.
