M sport exhaust 2023 40i

So I optioned the M Sport Package pro which includes the m exhaust. Does anyone have any idea how this sounds? I tried searching for a YouTube video but I can't seem to find anything.

No it doesn’t. Not even close to that loud and growl. A X3 M40i is a completely different animal.
The X5/X7 40i have a completely different and tame sound to the M-sport exhaust. There is several clips on the G05 forum.

Very close to this:

Most probably, the M sport pro exhaust in the new X7 40i will sound same as the X3 M40i. I don't think BMW would offer a different exhaust system for X7 40i with M sport pro package. The engines are literally same with almost same hp.

Here is the quote from 2023 X7 press release:

New: M Sport Professional package and “BMW M 50 Years” emblems.

The new M Sport Professional Package highlights the sporty streak in the X7’s character even more emphatically. When fitted as an optional upgrade for the M Sport Package on X7 xDrive40i, it adds Extended Shadowline Trim including a matte black surround for the kidney grille and tailpipe finishers in Black Chrome, M Sport brakes with black or blue brake calipers bearing the M logo, an M Sport exhaust system, , and the Illuminated Kidney Grille.

i highly doubt that the Msport exhaust in the X7 will sound like the one on the X3 M40i

The M40i is obnoxiously loud at times and backfires on overrun.
the sound is a product of the exhaust and the engine tuning.

which is why i love it. but bmw would never put that into the X7.
i suspect it will sound like a toned down M50i in terms of volume.

maybe not even that, in the past the Msport exhaust was just different tips.
the Mperformance exhaust was louder. but that != msport.

Maybe, maybe not. It is specifically included in a new higher tier package of the standard M-Sport trim. Would they put it on the standard kid hauler lux or base M-Sport trims? Probably not. But with it being in a higher tier "professional" package, they may have given it a little bit of a bite.

I was given a loaner X3 M40 a year or so ago, and I don't remember it being obnoxiously loud. But I didn't hammer on it either. My old M550i was loud only when pushed really hard and purposely lifting on the throttle at the right spot, or downshifting very aggressively.

Now for being obnoxious.... I just put my M5C into sport plus mode. That sounds like shotguns going off.

The configurator specifically states "M Sport exhaust system
The M Sport Exhaust system delivers a full-throated roar that enhances the sportiness of your vehicle."

We get ours in a few weeks with that option in it. Will post some video clips.

Who knows anymore with BMW. These M-lite versions of every car and the new various option packages makes my head hurt. Dilution (although obviously a money maker) of the M brand continues.

the 2018 and 2019 X3 M40i were louder. i believe MY 20 and on got a gas particulate filter in the exhaust which muffled it a bit

if you look at the pricing i doubt they stuck a full exhaust system

M Sport Pro is $1300
it includes
MSport Brakes- $650
Extended Shadowline- $300
Backlit Grill- ???
MSport Exhaust- ???
M Sport Package Pro- ??
after you take out the knowns, its $450 for the remaining items. im guessing the upcharge for the backlit grille, just based on size is $250 of that

it would be nice if it was actually a louder exhaust, but I suspect its more likely just tips and maybe some louder ASD

but who knows, i will be the first to post up if i am wrong. I'm an 8/1 build, so i suspect it will be at my dealer in 2 weeks or so.

Not quite. the X3 M40i is using the B58TU1 while the 2023 X7 40i is using the B58TU2. A newer version of the B58 engine.

It sounds nothing like this. The video is what my 40i sounds like and everyone else's here....and trust me, you can't hear it at all. Whoever did this video isn't representing what it really sounds like because of the way he set the mic.....

Let's put it this way, you will look like a fool trying to rev a 40i because it will sound like revving a Honda CRV. Seriously...

The exhaust is hard to hear while driving with the windows up. You'll need to rely on your neighbors flipping you off to know how annoying you actually are.

So M Exhaust is a gimmick? This is little disappointing. I guess illuminate grill will have to do.

its a tbd, it was not an option on the pre-lci, so no one really knows what it sounds like.
on past models the Msport (not M performance) exhaust was basically different tips.

there are two exhausts listed for the pre lci, but it looks to be either EU noise level compliant and not.
the EU compliant version is a single pipe after the secondary cat, feeding the muffler with two tips
the non eu compliant version is a Y pipe after the secondary cat, feeding the muffler with two tips

The description says m sport exhaust system. Not sure if that means exhaust tips or the full system
