Screen mirroring disabled (android)

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi All,

Long time lurker... first time poster. Just picked up a 22 40i this afternoon. Black on black pretty much loaded (except the HK sound system - CA couldn't add it in time).

I was playing around with all the settings tonight after attempting to put on some miles for the break in period (hard to justify with the cost of gas now... ). I can't for the life of me get my screen mirroring on my android to work. The head unit does NOT give me the screen mirroring option. Is there another option that I need to enable to get this to work? I know I'm able to play video on the screen - as I connected a thumb drive and video played.

Any assistance is appreciated!!

Obligatory shots from pick up attached!!!!

BMW of Tenafly?

i think android screen mirroring needs to be enabled by coding? i could be wrong, but on my X3 it had to be.

BMW Tenafly indeed!!!

The owners manual in the car even details how to do this. It looks like they may have removed this option in the newer builds!!!!

I see it in my wife's 2019 X7 40i and have used it many times. But my new 2022 X7 M50i I pickup last week I did not see it when I did a quick search.

Video in motion aka screen mirroring is a coding dependent activity.

I don't believe that to be the case. The in car manual states that you're able to enable this via the iDrive.

the manual is a general one, outside of the US i believe video in motion is enabled. so they must have disabled it by default for the US.

i vaguely remember that on my g01 it needed to be coded to enable (i had a bunch of other things coded, like no glare highbeams and variable light distribution)

did a lot of research on this - but most iDrive7s have this capability. and it looks like some other guys here have had it on earlier builds. i'll have to call the genius at Tenafly to see if he knows anything about this.

Garage List
Got it

My MY22 M50i has it, built end 2021, picked up in January, for what it's worth

Kinda nifty, once I figured it out (mostly on the phone side, Android), especially when waiting in ferry line in the NorthWest

if you are using android auto - look up fermata auto on youtube. there's a few options using that method. if you have VIM coded - you can cast youtube onto the Idrive. Netflix, amazon, disney+ do NOT work.

does it basically become an app in the android auto suite and will play the video as part of it? Then that's not screen mirroring , but still get the video to play.

there's an app you can side load on your android called AA MIRROR PLUS that allows you to mirror your screen.
