I love the idea of EV's. Are we really saving the planet with 9000lb hummer and Rivan EV's. Lol. I have no way to quantify all the energy and effort it takes to produce an EV over an ice and/or where the power comes from. But, my bulllshit meter tells me it's all smoke and mirrors at this point. I honestly feel a better solution for now is hybrid. And I'm not talking about 20 miles on battery. I would love to have an X7 with about 50-60 miles of EV and then the 6cyl to back it up. I could get to work and back, and maybe make a few stops and be completely EV. I had a 530e loaner for a week and I really enjoyed driving it. But I could only manage about 18 miles on electric only.
I drove the new IX and while nice, it simply is not worth it to me to have a smaller vehicle, that has less range, and takes longer to "refuel" than my current X7 and costs the same. Doesn't make sense to me. But, everyone has different priorities I guess. Last edited by crackerjack15; 10-01-2022 at 11:31 PM.. |

The problem is that Tesla's market capitalization peaked at over $1 trillion a few months ago -- more than the next 6 largest auto makers COMBINED. So they all (GM, VW, Ford, Stellantis, BMW, MB) piled on the EV bandwagon to pacify stock holders. The only sane company is Toyota, that is smart enough to realize no matter how good its EVs are, that its cars will sit on dealer lots while the folks with EVs run down their batteries driving around looking for charging stations. All the ICE ban grandstanding by politicians seeking to advance their careers is a bunch of tripe.

Read an article that said the Hummer EV has the worst environmental impact of any vehicle produced today; ICE, hybrid, or EV. Think its even worse then the OG H2/3.
Big heavy vehicles loaded with 1000s of little batteries are not the long term future or solution. Hence why Toyota the largest auto manufacturer and one of the most successful over many decades is not all in on the current EV tech. Personally I dont know why the i3 Rex hybrid tech isnt a path many have gone, it solves all the charging and range issues. 5 yrs on second i3 Rex and we love it.
