Unbiased Savagegeese X7 comparison - LCI vs Pre-LCI

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
IMO a pretty unbiased review of the refreshed X7 vs the pre refresh from Savage Geese.

Curious how forum members who own the X7 feel about the new car coming from the old (aside from the weird front end).

Pre-LCI looks so much better. The front end of the LCI would 100% prevent me from buying one.

I’m not a fan of all BMWs new looks, but I love this one. Tough at the front, and the wrap around screens work in the large X7 cabin.

Are you saying it's "unbiased" simply because he bashes some of the features? (The SAME features that are in the pre-LCI as well as in the X5... such as heated/cooled cupholders, massaging seats, automatic seat controls etc). I love Savagegeese but many of those comments were very nitpicky and not something I recall them mentioning in previous reviews of cars with the same features (namely the X5).

I've driven the pre-LCI X7 pretty extensively and now own a loaded LCI X7 and they're very similar - the largest differences being the inclusion of iDrive8 in the LCI and the new front-end. Looks are obviously subjective - I like both pre-LCI and LCI in different ways. Pre-LCI to me was more of a classic and beautiful design... the LCI to me is much more aggressive looking (and, like many modern BMWs, looks significantly better in person than in pictures).

That being said, if I had the pre-LCI X7, I wouldn't switch one out for the LCI (unless I was leasing and my lease was coming to an end). There aren't enough differences to justify it IMO unless you're gung-ho about iDrive8. I was coming from an X5, and I didn't want to buy used, so the decision for me was pretty cut and dry - The X7 in this price range ($90k-$100k) is THE best 3 row SUV on the market by a large margin.

LOL Mark owns a pre-LCI X7 so how can there not be bias? How many unbiased takes do you see here on various model forums from current owners when a new LCI is released? Very few. In most cases over the years LCI changes have been for the better on most models but if you just went by the opinions of pre-LCI owners you would think that all BMW LCI's are total abominations.

I think there’s a strange hypersensitivity with criticism on the forums. Can’t speak for all you guys, but I’m the type of buyer that wants to know what’s crappy about a car, even if it’s nitpicking, not one that just sings its praises bc there’s a BMW badge on it (not saying you guys are all that way, obviously, just a trend I’ve noticed).

I said unbiased bc he’s able to highlight good and bad and if it’s worth upgrading to the LCI as an owner of the pre-LCI.

I’m not an X7 owner, but it’s potentially on the short list, and I appreciated the review as a comparator for the cx90. I’m sure when they do the CX90 review, the X7 will be a foil car to the Mazda esp since Mark owns one and the Savagegeese guys tend to like BMWs as much as Mazdas.

Criticism is healthy even if you generally like the brand.

You get the online commentators, scathingly critical of any changes on BMWs, and then you get the ones who buy them.

In my neck of the woods, the New 7 and X7 LCI are the main drivers for growth for the brand - the demand is incredible.

I like them both. At this moment, I prefer the pre-LCI a bit more. I like the slightly more analog interior / controls compared to the spartan looking LCI. I like the more classic look of the pre-LCI front-end on a vehicle I didn't purchase to be "sporty and aggressive". I haven't compared them closely side by side in person though.

*I may be a bit biased, owning a pre-LCI.

I love ours and very pleased with it so far (since October). Drove across the country, got great mileage and super comfortable. Also like the appearance, liked the old one as well. Feels like people are overly resistant to change.

I don’t care what something the size of a school bus looks like tbh. I drove one for a few days through Turo over the winter, and it was pretty zippy for its size, even though you have to get on the brakes pretty hard, which caught me off guard a few times. It also stops like a school bus apparently. I’m not really in the market for one of these, but they all look insane to me, LCI or otherwise

That looks great. You nailed it with the change thing. People just don’t like it. Why BMW enthusiast want to have the same looking grill on the entire fleet offered by this manufacture is beyond me but they do and they throw a temper tantrum if they change it. Oh well. It’s changing. I don’t see how these enthusiast will like any other manufacture because nobody else but BMW has the same freaking grill on every one of their cars. (Or used to anyway)

I like this one! I think the LCI sportier front end looks great with the frozen and shadowline.

You simply haven't been here long enough (2022 newbie) as the reality is a total 180 with your claim. This is by far the most negative forum of any automotive brand forum that I've been a part of and I've been a part of a lot of them. Way more than most. A lot of BMW enthusiasts simply despise any sort of change and a good portion of posters here hate on every single new vehicle released. They had to ban a bunch of posters from posting in the G8x forums because they went total batshit crazy when photos of the new grilles leaked. Never seen anything like that in my life. Your initial claim of an unbiased take was simply incorrect plain and simple. An unbiased take would come from a reviewer that doesn't own either vehicle, isn't a BMW fan, and has no skin in the game.

Skin in the game???

The guy bought an X7. Not sure how much more or less skin in the game one needs to have. I’m fine with someone owning a car and complaining about it vs a reviewer than has it for a few hours or days.

People get banned all the time for innocuous comments and there’s a strange bent towards a “BMW can do no wrong” mentality by some, which is a categorically false statement and epitomizes a clear bias, much more than a savage geese video that has minimal bias, relatively speaking.

I guess we can agree to disagree.

Spot on! The first few minutes are pure bias!
He's not reviewing the vehicle, he's complaining about changes that were made in the vehicle. Without actually living with the vehicle and getting used to the new system. It's actually borderline corny that he would bring his vehicle and bias into the review.

You’re NOT listening! That’s exactly his point. Mark has skin in the game, and the banning he is referring to was much more than an “innocuous comment”…..at least as it pertained to the majority (…there were some who were banned after making a comment, but by that time those who were banned before them had already put admin staff into zero tolerance mode).

I like everything about this except the size of the grills. That's not coming from being "resistant to change" that's coming from the only thing I see is GRILLS. It's literally the first thing I focused on.

Just like most of the other BMW models that are designed this way, it's just obnoxiously oversized grills for no reason.

Other than that it looks great, love the color combination too.

Just my .02
