A few changes after software update (330i Apr05 build)
I picked up my car today after 3 days in the service department.
I initially was offered just a 'recall' for the software updated. I figured I better request the MP3 capability while the car is at it. Brief car spec; 330i, Nav, premium, 2005 Apr build. A few changes have I noticed so far... pros 1) MP3 enabled; I burned a CD from my iTunes(PC) and it works well. 2-bytes characters(Japanese, Korean), of course, can't be seen. I wonder if that works on my Powerbook too. BTW, converting AAC to MP3 is just not fun. 2) SA detailed my car. But it has been raining since I picked up the car . Very unusual for SD weather. cons 1) bluetooth and BMW assist no longer works; I stopped by the dealer and was told to leave the car once again on monday. It seems the bluetooth cannot be enabled from the 'settings' menu. 2) Navigation voice is TOO loud. I can't turn it down. Tried to increased the volume and it worked. I guess the minimum level of the volume has been somehow increased. 3) My favorite voice command, 'Information' no longer works. It was very very useful when I needed to find some POI (Place of interests). Is there any alternative voice command to bring up the information menu? 4) All items in the Address book in Nav menu got duplicated. All of them has two entries. I thought I would lose all my stored addresses, but well they came back doubled.

my CIP 20.0 upgrade workes flawlessy, but I have non-idrive tho. Phone volume is much louder, bluetooth connects much faster, DRL, DDL and pathway lighting are functional. Better than ever.

I don't have NAV, but the MP3 discs that I burn with Japanese character encoding (2-byte) are legible if you set the display language to Japanese. Maybe you can fiddle with the settings...

drfluid - sorry to hear about the trouble. I don't have iDrive, so I can't respond to those specific issues, but it is a well known probability that the telematics unit for BMW Assist and Bluetooth can be damaged during the update. It is likely that they will need to order you a new unit and install it. Have you reported these problems to them?
Not to ask you dumb questions, but are you trying to adjust the voice control volume while the VC is operating? I ask because it took me awhile to figure that out for myself. You should let your SA know all the things that are not working properly and ask them to fix them. Best of luck.

I work 5 minutes drive from Harloff BMW in Encinitas. I got my car in the moring around 8 am and found out that the phone wasn't working. So I went back to the same SA during lunch time and made an appointment on Monday. Simply can't live without BT..

It was initially just a part of recall for the cars built earlier last year. Maybe I should check the software version by following the secreat iDrive menu that I have read somewhere here...

I had a lot of problems with intermittent BT, but since the last update it has been working 100% in both cars. Highly recommended!

The ASSIST not working is just the dealer forgetting or not knowing that they have to reactivate the system after the update
I remember hearing reports of it when CIP 20 first came out. Its not a problem, just a step they left out.

I had the exact same problems after adding the MP3 capabilities. Bluetooth and BMW assist did not work. I went back and they fixed the bluetooth but they did not fix BMW Assist. I am still waiting on this one...

My dealership updated my car to CIP 20, for mp3 playback, and disabled BT and Assist by mistake. It took another service visit.
BTW, the "information menu" is under Navigation>New Route>Information. The voice command works on mine tho. |

I got my car back yesterday. It only took 1 1/2 days. I guess this time they didn't flash all the software. All other settings has not been deleted.
BUT, 1) Nav volume did NOT go down. The lady is shouting everytime.. 2) My favorite voice command 'Information' does not work, either.. Well.. at least they washed my car..

The single command of 'Information' gets confused with the 'Info menu' command though. |

Apparently having similar results in my 6er. In for fix of failed VR and retrofit of MP3. CID found as failed during Measures Plan process. Ordered and received. Then CCC cooling fan failure fault code - ordered and replaced. Coding then completed including retrofit. Then the prescribed reinit process on Bluetooth and Assist. Process discovered that Assist had failed. PuMA initiated. TS plan found TCU needed replacing. SA said 6 TCUs PN out there (exaggeration ??) and only one is reliable. Apparently due in tomorrow and hopefully I'll be back in business then. The TCU and CCC now fall into the category of having to have a PuMA case submitted prior to being authorized to replace. Isn't this because of limited resources or to establish a fault analysis??
BTW I have a 325i as loaner and I am quite impressed with it's pep and general fit, finish and of course it DRIVES like any BMW Car picked up yesterday after TCU replaced. Everything works now including MP3. Now on CIP 20.02. First drives look like nothing wrong except double addresses in NAV and it did not know where my work location was (9 miles off). Fortunately, I do know where I work Last edited by cobradac; 03-17-2006 at 07:10 AM.. Reason: Updated info |
