Body Shop - Part Shortages

BIMMERPOST

Anyone hearing anything about part shortages getting better/worse? Been in the shop since 12/13. Waiting on a few front end parts. Looking for light at the end of the tunnel.

It's pretty bad, but BMW is not alone. My brother had to have his Mustang Mach-e repaired due to being rear ended. Took 4 months to get all the parts to fix it. Then because it sat at the body shop for 4 months, the 12v AGM battery drained/died and needed to be replace and there were non anywhere. Took a few more weeks for Ford to find a new 12V AGM battery. He had a rental (Polestar) during the body repairs but the dealer did not have a loaner for him when he was waiting for the replacement battery.

A friend had the battery in his Jeep Grand Cherokee die last week. He had to call every auto parts store within a 100 mile radius to track down 1 battery then drive 60 miles each way to pickup the battery.

My father is trying to get tires for his volvo xc90, there are non in stock anywhere.

That's ridiculous! I pray nothing break downs or that anybody crashes into my rig. That would be terrible waiting a simple parts for months.

There's a few other discussions on here talking about how hard it is to get the rear 22" tires in OEM size. Also a few are having a hard time getting brake pad/rotors for the M brakes.
So if you have 22" tires or M brakes, drive gently.

That said I called the parts manager at the dealer, with whom I’ve worked with in the past. Just to get a sense of how long I could be waiting. He was a bit vague but said orders are simply taking longer to fulfill, but lead time is averaging two weeks. Where it was in the months range earlier in fall.

Hoping, if that is true I’ll be out before February as the last of the known pets were ordered last week.

Sitting in shipping containers near the Long Beach Port. One of the downsides of having nearly everything manufactured outside of the US. Chinese are owed an incalculable sum of money from all the junk treasury bonds they bought from us over the years. Now they seem to be withholding products we've grown dependent on.

Just a theory though…what do I know?

Two months at the collision center here for a fairly basic rear end. 😭

I miss her but my Taycan 4S is doing double duty well.

Heck, that looks drivable from the rear picture. Obviously this is a partial shot of the damage. But at risk of fuel leak something interfering with the rear tire…..I understand. Hope you get it back soon.
