Wow. Doubt BMW will replace though? Would expect to just go through owners insurance? I guess it depends on cause though. Would love to see updates on this as well.

I’m no forensic expert, but it appears the fire started towards the front on the driver’s side based on the amount of hood damage.
Is that the B58? What is located in that area? Is there a battery there? Coolant pump? Radiator? |

There is a video on facebook, the first 5 seconds or show shows flames shooting out the front of the car. Looks like it's closer to drivers side. Not sure what is in that area that could cause flames to shoot forward straight out. Maybe the AC freon (I read R1234 is flammable).

I saw an instance where the factory didn't tighten down the alternator cable so it was arcing and melted a bunch of stuff around it.

No one wants to see these accidents: not the owner, not BMW, not even arm chair quarterbacks / front end designers who favor thermal energy as a primary tool.
For all it's worth, I hope BMW will identify the root cause. |
