Manual Trans Fluid In The 335 under maintenance plan

Hi,

A while back I had read that the 6MT fluid can be changed under the maintenance plan if done on the 3rd oil change/30k miles. I had a reference on BMWUSA that I was going to bring to my SA but don't see it anymore. Anyone recall the terms or have a link ? Thanks.

Not possible. Manual transmission fluid is considered lifetime by BMW. Auto trans fluid is also considered lifetime, but the BMW service manual (for my car at least) called for changing the auto trans juice at 100,000 miles. Based on that information, I followed 100K service intervals for the manual trans in my car as well for the differential.

A manual transmission can be set to "comfort", "sport", and "track" modes simply by the technique and speed at which you shift it; it doesn't need "modes", modes are for manumatics that try to behave like a real 3-pedal manual transmission. If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

I think it's a 100K mile fluid.

I had my dealer in The Netherlands change my MT fluid at 50K miles. The tech said that the stuff that came out looked fine, but was much darker than the stuff that went in.

In Euroland, there's no such thing as "free maintenance"--you pay for oil and other services from day one (like BMW USA did prior to 1996).

Anyway, MT fluid changes are cheap and easy (no pans or filters--just a drain hole and a fill hole). If I were in the states, and planned to keep the car for a long tie, I'd probably do it every 30K miles or so.

BMW considers the trans fluid to be lifetime, even going as far as voiding the warranty if it's changed out, including with OEM fluid, unless changed during a seperate transmission service by the dealer requiring fluid to be exchanged.

That being said, ECS sells a nice kit with 2 plugs and D6

Yeah, had mine done at 30k miles and they charged me $ 170. Normally would have done it myself, but wanted some documentation if the notchy shift didn't go away. Of course it did.

Thanks for all the replies - guess I will just wait another 6k miles till I hit 30k then replace it in my garage. Took a look through the forums and the only thing they should be covering is the oil change, brake fluid (2yrs), Clutch fluid (2nd covered oil change), cabin air filter (2nd covered oil change), wiper blades (yearly). My SA doesn't bring anything up unless I ask so if I am missing anything let me know please.

FYI - car has 24k miles right now ...

They are suppose to give you a yearly low milage oil change

They are suppose to give you a yearly low mileage oil change.
(regardless of what the cbs says.)under warranty .
It is in the or use to be in the warranty manual . (yearly oil change)
Some dealerships don't tell you about this or glaze it over with the CBS BS.
You may have to insist on it and read out of the friggin manual out
loud to them.
You are still entitled to this and I would collect on it especially if you
intend to keeping the car a long time or respect your machine.
That would mean you would get at least 4 free oil changes in the life
of your warranty not 2.

Several have said the max miles between oil changes is now 10k
even according to BMW now.

page 2 bottom in document.
IN maintenance and warranty manual.

I dropped off the car yesterday but they said that BMWNA does not cover the coolant nor the clutch fluid. Does someone have a CBS for this work ? They said they would do it if I provide them some proof :/

Manual transmission fluid is considered lifetime, and lifetime in BMW is 100k miles - which is when your warranty or maintenance plan runs out. Sure, if you argue enough and raise hell about it I'm sure you can make it happen under one of the plans. But is it really worth it?

"clutch fluid" is brake fluid. It uses the same reservoir.

Maybe they meant they won't bleed the clutch, which isn't a huge deal as it seems not that many people do very often.
