Wind noise driver side

Both me and my buddy hear a fair amount of wind noise from the driver side window. I mentioned it when I did the 1200 mile service and the tech confirmed it but apparently drove another XM and it had the same issue so the conclusion was “confirmed but within spec” or something like that. Just curious if anyone else has this issue?

I feel you. I believe I have the same thing happening on mine.

Same here. It sounds like a window is cracked open in the rear, but not as loud. It hasn’t really bothered me too much, but it is definitely noticeable.

This has been happening since BMW uses new technology on windshield, which is thinner and lighter.
Not sure if you guys noticed, a lot of the new car’s windshield pitted easily due to this new technology.
IIRC, it started as early as my 2017 G30 5 series.

I never experienced this on my 2019 G30 or ‘23 iX M60. It sounds like it’s coming from the rear driver-side window. Like I said, it’s not enough to bother me too much, but it is definitely noticeable if there is no music playing.

Don’t have this on my wife’s 2024 iX50 either. I did have it to some extent on my 2023 760 as well and I believe there’s a fix for it now but I traded it in for the XM.

I too have it and I asked my dealership during the 1200 mile service. They think it’s being caused by the shape of the M mirrors and the air moving through the gap between the mirror and the window.

That sounds plausible. My initial thought it was related to faulty weatherstripping on the door trim, but the door frame feels airtight to me. If enough people complain, it may turn into a service bulletin.

Ahh, the side mirror wind noise.
Yes, there is a slight noise.
I don’t hear it on my F97 X3MC and F95 X5MC test car.
Probably the air turbulence due to the XM’s design.

That small 1 inch gap between the top of the mirror's protrusion piece and the car is where the noise comes from at high speed & cross winds. I believe during wind tunnel tests - for aerodynamics testing - no one was INSIDE the car to hear that whistling. I am fashioning a black rubber piece that can slip over that open plastic edge point to extend nearly to the car. Let you know if it works.

If enough people complain to their service advisors, a service bulletin may be issued with a fix. We will all have to speak up to make that happen if they’re able to find a remedy.

It doesn’t really bother me that much because I usually have music playing.

Same. I always have music on and have hit 90-120mph and any whistling from the side mirrors I don’t even notice between the engine, road noise, etc…

It doesn’t bother me as the engine/exhaust is louder than wind noise…

100% agree. If you want a super quiet 650hp+ BMW SUV, the iX M60 would be perfect for you! I can’t tell you how much more I enjoy the XM over that vehicle. Worth every penny.

There is a TSB for the 2023 7 Series, same problem.

For the record, I got the same issue - I think I get it on both driver and passenger window. But I can't hear the passenger side as much.
