How many passengers did you have? I thought you'd get better numbers with the 40i. My 50i with 3 passengers, and ~150 lbs of luggage + few other packed items filling the trunk/3'rd row gets about 22MPG highway. I have a photo showing 22.6 MPG after a 300 Miles highway trip. AC was mainly on heating mode I believe (ambient was in the 35-45 degF range)

This is a living room on wheels. Its not meant to be a sports car. Get the 40i and enjoy the quiet, smooth ride with plenty of power.
Its ridiculous they are "M" ing up a big ass living room and trying to market it like a sports car. Its not. Not even close. |

By that logic that could be said for any BMW SUV.

I've got the M60i and can still enjoy a quiet, smooth ride with plenty more power when and if I ever need. Drove the 40i and it's great, but felt the V8TT gave this SUV which weighs nearly 5600lbs the power to weight ratio it needs. |

You may be right about that but I thought about what I love most about my X7 and it is the acceleration/speed, the sound (even though some of it is fake) and the handling all of which I wouldn’t be able to get on the x40i so for me, sure it may be a tank, but it’s a friggin fast ass tank that drives like a car so for me personally, I’d have a hard time going to a x40i. |

80 miles Avg 80 mph 24.1 mpg So not bad. Slower driving would have probably been worth a couple more mpg. For reference, she was following me and I was in my 540. It did (two trips, she followed me back): Avg 82 mph 28 mpg Avg 80 mpg 30.2 mpg Just thought that’s worth something, since the engine is close to the same. Probably tuned a little different.

Almost 2 hours and explained almost every feature and allowed us to inspect car thoroughly. After almost 3k miles the car drives like a champ. Had a hard time keeping it under 80 sometimes 100. Silky smooth and drives like butter. Fingers crossed it stays the same. Although V8 was amazing no regrets getting a 40i plenty of power for me |
