Kansas doesn't have points. Here I can go to my court date, pay double the ticket, and have the ticket amended (like it never happened).

Just FYI, this section of road was 4 lane with a continuous grass median. He clocked me half a block before it turned to 45mph. Not that it makes a difference really.

Could be a jail sentence for a couple of weeks if you drive that fast in the UK. We have some superb roads, which back in the 60s were unrestricted and our motorways are sublime (the ones that have been resurfaced).

Fortunately your punishment will depend on the way your caught. If a camera catches you: click, flash, court case, fine, ban and jail. If your pulled over by a traffic piggy, they may even let you off depending on road condition, and even your car condition - and if you don't get caught at all, count your blessings

I let up right as I hit 100 to slow down and there he was . . . Mr. Policeman sitting there with his radar gun

When he approached my car for the second time, my heart was racing and I began sweating. As he handed me my license, he told me I was clocked going 49 mph. What? I was estatic and confused. Then he had me sign the ticket which was only 70 bucks! I told him thank you and he told me to drive safely and have a nice day! Awesome! I've been driving like a granny for the last 4 days (I know it won't last). Everyone deserves a break once and a while.
Nice break.

BTW, why is the speed limit so low at 35mph if you are able to do 100mph? Is it because the road is very twisty?

Shawnee Mission Parkway just past the Mission Center Mall, huh? Be glad you werent doing that in Shawnee, lol. They wouldve done all they could to make your day miserable. I loathe the Shawnee police. Never had a run in with Fairway police though. Congrats on getting lucky.

It's because there are houses on both sides of the street. It also goes from being a divided roadway to one with just a center stripe seperating the lanes. I know the stretch he's talking about since I dont live too far from there either.

I actually took Mission Road south to College Boulevard. I then turned right, and that's when I opened it up in front of the Leawood officer.

On another note, my wife got a speeding ticket at SM Pkwy and Mission Center 6 weeks ago. Her's really was 14 over though.

A law was passed in NY recently making that stuff illegal. I don't know about other states.

Wouldn't bother with a radar detector, the guns used in some places inc here, mean you have already been caught by the time your detector picks up the signal. I'd have to say 100mph in a 35mph zone is dangerous and immature. Its a 35 for a reason. No matter how good you think your driving or car is, it's no excuse.

Re plate sprays, dunno about the US, but here in the UK they are completely illegal.

Plate covers/sprays are illegal in most US states, from what I remember.

I disagree on the radar detector though. Mine has saved me enough times to pay for itself already. Here in california, they usually just sit at the side of the road, and keep the gun on, blasting away down the road. But even if they didn't, if their are any cars in front of you, as they hit those cars with radar, a good radar detector will pick it up and give you plenty of warning. Then you can slow down so that you aren't the fastest person on the road anymore.

I don't know how much a radar detector would have helped when going 100 in a 35 though Proably not enough reaction time!

Interesting.

I did 79 in a 35 and everyone replied with "You deserve the ticket! You put peoples lives at risk including yours!"

This dude goes 100 and gets praised.

I'd be interested in seeing any such laws. Do you have any references?

Plate covers that prevent other motorists from seeing your plate clearly are illegal. I'm not sure on the sprays.

I agree. Even those plate frames that can cover parts of the plate are illegal here in Georgia. I've never heard of the transparent covers or a spray that was illegal, though.

According to this article, any modification to a plate (in california) is illegal. Most states have a law against altering plates, so this stretch can be made that the spray is an alteration of the plate. Some have their "plate cover" laws worded vaguely enough that they could interpret it to include sprays as well. How they would enforce that law with a "transparent" spray is a different story

This is an article about how the sprays are illegal in DC: http://www.washingtontimes.com/metro...5936-9529r.htm

I love how posts about driving like an idiot are usually met with applause and accolades around here. Not to mention the encouragement from advice on how to get away with it.

What's so cool about doing 100+ in what was obviously a residential area? Do you guys come here to brag when you flatten some 4 year old kid running across the street?

That article almost reads like an advertisement for the Photoblocker product. Maybe I'll get some

Amen! I would also suggest that they post their experiences on the learning channel or perhaps gather at "Kids are us" to swap stories.

I actually found the license plate spray thing to be an intriguing concept because I would occasionally drive through the wrong (non) EZ Pass lane by mistake or with the wrong car, transducer not get picked up, etc.

I disagree with your characterization of the general forum reaction to irresponsible driving. I've only been checking this forum out for about 3 months now but I would say that most posts in responses to "I drove 110 on the freeway" or "I flied my car!" are in the vein of " URN Idiot, go buy a Chevy."

Do a search and you will see my general opinions regarding speed limits, turn signals, defensive driving, traffic safety, and respect for the police in general. Welcome to the forum.

Always drive responsibly.
Always drink responsibly.
Not at the same time.
