New 718 Boxster launched.
The S gives 350hp from F4 2.5 177mph and 0-62 in 4.2 seconds with a near 40mpg on the combined cycle, the 718 Cayman will follow I believe and be priced lower than the new 718 Boxster
The standard car gets F4 2.0 and 0-62 in 4.7 S is 50k http://www.porsche.com/uk/models/718...ter-s/#special

But when is the AWD diesel version coming out? It will be even faster!

Oh works for me, it's just a link to the Porsche 718 microsite which you can get too via the main Porsche site though.

On a more serious note, it will be very interesting to hear how these engines sound. Can't help but think that if they can keep some of that trad Porsche noise, and good throttle response then the passing of the old NA flat 6 may not seem so bad.
My disappointment with the soulless 328i clouds my view though, as it just couldn't hold a candle to a proper straight 6 BMW.

They will have tried hard to keep that n/a feel, but I've driven a new 991.2 C2S which is now turbocharged and just like my car in the higher gears at low RPM the response just isn't there, but at higher rpm it's fine.
As far as noise is concerned it'll be all exhaust Vs. the induction + exhaust of the n/a cars so will be contrived to a point. But I'll bet it's a good steer goes like the clappers will sound OK, I think a Cayman 718 S with the extras you'd want will be around 58k which will be tempting.

And I supposed the solution to the throttle response, based on what you say, is to use the gearbox properly!

Yep the only issue is that at higher rpm there is too much go with a modern turbo engine, but I'm a Porsche fanboy and I'm not sure they know how to make a bad car.

Well, yes and the one regular criticism is the long-legged gearing meaning that redlining in 2nd puts you in illegal speeds and then 3rd in to silly speeds, and maxing out those two gears is where all the fun is!

Issue is you have to break the law to enjoy a modern sports car these days, most of the NSL roads have changed to 50 or 40 round here, for no reason whatsoever, but that's progress for you.

I was going to try and get the wife out of her Z4 into a Boxster/Cayman but now they are not going to offer a 6 pot on top of the 4 pot like I assumed they would I am not too sure.
I suspect it will still be a great car but I think I am going to have to convince her into the new turbo engine 911. |
