X7 Eco Mode
Has anyone ever experienced your driving going from Eco to Comfort by itself?
So annoying.

Nope. But can't say that I've used Eco mode more than once just to see what it was like. Probably not the best person to judge but I do use Comfort and Sport Plus and Adaptive and I have never had any of those shift from one to the other without me pushing the button or the obvious annoyance of every time you turn off the car...

First of all, it's my wife's car however when I drive it, I still put it in Eco. Second, I get plenty of power and fun with my 650 HP sports car so putting the X7 in Sport mode with only 335 HP would do very little for me, haha! I like the coasting feature (2022 40i with Mild Hybrid) and honestly it's become a challenge on how long I can keep the engine off. I've gotten over 26 mpg on multiple long trips which I think is decent for this size of an SUV but to be truthful, I haven't compared the same drive in a different mode. I don't mind the Stop & Go mode and it's been one of the smoothest systems I've had to date. Had other cars with it and this is so much better. So anyways, the reduction in power in ECO is not a big deal at all especially for day-to-day driving. I have zero reason to get on the gas and floor it. However, even in ECO mode, I can step on it and have plenty enough acceleration. |

Purely a gas savings mode. If you have the mild hybrid system with 48V battery, you have a coasting feature where the X7 shuts off the engine as you're coasting. This is only available in ECO mode. So going down a hill or letting off the gas and slowing to a stop light, the engine shuts off. This can be a good savings over time. It's one of the smoothest features and most of the time you can't even tell the engine is off.
Cons would be reduced power and reduced AC or heating features like seat and steering wheel heat. However, these can be individually edited to even full output in ECO mode. You have individual settings that can be changed in ECO. |

I have a G05 and a G07 and have been driving both regularly for years, never have had the drive mode change without pressing the buttion.

I actually use Eco in my M50i when hauling the family around. It still gives plenty of power when needed, but the throttle response is a bit more tamed, so it keeps me from accelerating too quick, plus it keeps RPMs lower and exhaust quieter. And saves gas a bit.
When I by myself, I mostly drive in Comfort. Won't be turning Sport on until I'm at least at 2000 miles so the engine break-in goes well. |

For me, ECO mode saved me 1-2 mpg driving across Washington, and less in town. So clearly not worth it. (again, in my opinion) However, I live in the Northwest, so this is likely my last gasoline powered (at least 100% gasoline) vehicle, hybrid or fully EV is in my future, clearly, that is true for many of us.... My $0.02 I'm glad those with the mild hybrid versions are able to get a bit more out of the ECO mode, makes sense, actually. Good to hear. |

I'm kind of an odd duck here, I guess. I don't care much about engine sound and much prefer silent EV acceleration, although I have to admit that V8 sounds very pleasant to my ears.
I also don't buy powerful cars to drive like I'm on the race track. I like having fun on twisty roads, but most of the time I drive like I'd drive any other car. But I love to have extra power at my disposal as I view it as an active safety system. There were some occasions when extra power allowed me to accelerate out of potential accident, plus it makes merges and overtaking easy. I would probably gone with 40i, but 50i was the only way to get HK and all other options I wanted, plus I really got spoiled by owning Tesla, so 40i felt underpowered. |

But agreed on cruising 75/80, modes really don't apply at highway speeds and most likely if you did a full tank in both modes, you would come out about the same. Only potential savings would be the acceleration for passing. ECO is more of a saver for mixed driving. And regarding Sports mode around town, I just don't get my rocks off in the SUV driving around in Sports mode. That's why I have my car, haha. |

Let me start out by saying I am OLD. I didn't buy my '19 40i for speed, but for comfort and to drive my two Labrador Retrievers to my cabin in the woods. For fun, REAL engine noise and speed I drive my 67 Corvette.
Anyway, I am also CHEAP. Since getting the X7, I have only driven in Eco. My average mileage has always been and is today 23.5 mpg. On the highway I put it in "cruise" and go along at 75. I do a lot of city driving in Chicago as well. No electrification at all but impressive mileage while being comfortable. Usually have the temperature on auto so I use the air when it is warm. I always had top of the line Suburbans before this vehicle and would NEVER go back. The best I ever got in a Suburban was 13 mpg. Just an old man's 2 cents. |
