Look at the two intakes and the details in the plastic in the middle, this is 100% a V8.

S68?

The oil fill location doesn't match S58 and you can see the valve cover on the right side indicating it's likely a V8 as said above.

Looks eerily similar to the X5M engine bay and the V8 S63TU4 to me.

Thanks for posting, thats about right with what information I have about "X"M.

The same engine should go in the next M"X" car, that will not be a SUV (sedan). I really hope BMW will make it, as the next 7 will be R6 only, so getting last V8 in the most powerful form before the ICE era ends would be a pleasant end of the road

Huh. I was 80/20 S58/S68 based on the things I could see.

(Pretty much the same odds I had for Clinton/Trump. That should teach me.)

I wonder what the high voltage cables are doing under the hood next to the gas engine.

That airbox is positioned like the old school n63/tu engines with snorkels bringing in the air..over the hot engine.. wondering why going that route..

Yeah! The V8+high voltage caught my attention right away! I'm wondering if they are still doing mild hybrid like the B58 approach, but with higher voltage for more oomph. It makes some sense for that to be the first "///M" approach to hybridization.

Looks like the S63. I can see the intercoolers in the same position as my F90.

This is a V8.

Some components look as if they've shifted forward; potentially to make space for hybrid components or to improve cooling.

Since Range Rover has a powertrain contract with BMW now, I wonder if this is going in the Range Rover hybrid models

Please, someone tell me what BMW a 20-year-old version of myself would fall in love with.

The next V8 engine in development will be based on a the Motorsport variant first, then destined for the base models and will definitely be a hybrid platform. It's very exciting. Think of the S63 in any form without the turbo lag and even more refined. I can't wait!

The day BMW "officially" reveals a car with the split headlight/DRL is the day I walk away forever. Yes, I do think that design is the ugliest thing auto manufacturers are doing.
