Transmission problems caused by BACK END FLASH??? Possible?
Ok well I was thinking about my current transmission problems and thought to myself well... I never had a problem until I flashed to the newest BMS E85 BEF (non-KR). I had lots of slippage in 2nd gear which would make the transmission shift up to 3rd when it detected it. When i would WOT 1-2 it would shift to 2nd for a split second then slam back into 1st gear overreving the **** out of my engine and a big cluster of lights when that would happen. So I said what the heck I lowered my E60 to E35 and flashed the Race Gas BEF. I am not sure how but I tested the SH!T out of the transmission on map 7 with a .2 avg_ign and the car didn't have one problem. The 1-2 shift worked starting from 2nd WOT no slippage etc. Could it have been from the BEF or the reduced power from going from E85 BEF back to the RACE GAS BEF? Maybe there were an error while programing the E85 BEF? Not sure what the BEF does to like pressures in the transmission or maybe I just got lucky testing my transmission out for over 30 minutes? I mean I really tested it my oil temps were getting close to going back to stock boost thats how hard I was on it. The E85 flash would act up bad in 1/4th of the time that I tested this Race Gas flash.... I still get a transmission code 511B which has no meaning so idk wtf that is but no gear ratio codes no clutch pack slippage codes etc. What kind of torque and HP drop we talking from the E85 to Race gas BEF? Logs look great too just like the E85 flash. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks P.S. It was very shortly after the E85 BEF I experienced the problems but I was also running a Alpina B3 V2 flash (that was done at close to the same time) that I thought might have caused it but flashed back to stock... P.S.S Also just to add in I did a transmission fluid change replaced the mechtronic sleeve and square adapter under the valve body and to be honest the fluid looked good no metal shavings on the magnets just some minor grey sludge broke open the filter no metal shavings. I was perplexed with the problems I had and the lack of evidence of a first time transmission fluid change and no evidence of internal parts failing... Was thinking maybe the mechtronics unit need replacement but now IDK? I have a 2008 BMW 335XI FBO with 70k |

IDK but it sounds like wheel spin not a transmission problem to me
I had the same problem before upgrading rubber and suspension I'm guessing you would know if it was wheel spin though |

Lets just say wheel spin is not really a problem I am AWD running 265 rear and 235 front Michelin pilot super sports... Dont get me wrong minor slip occurs in 1st or 2nd but nothing like rwd I smoke any rwd off the line with damn fast 0-60 times.

Well I know that but it cant be that crazy of a figure still running same boost level but the E85 flash runs leaner and has a more aggressive timing curve. How much hp or tq difference is there? Its hard to tell on the butt dyno lol...

Like csu said, this ain't rocket science. The stock e9x clutch can't handle the e85 bef, it'll start slipping. E85 can run a lot more timing and thus gain you a lot of power, hence more stress on the drivetrain...

The clutch packs on an automatic cant handle E85 BEF on stock turbos? I thought the automatic only had problems with upgraded turbos? If thats true its pointless for me to get some vargas stage 1 turbos to replace my old weak stock turbos then? Any higher end clutch packs I can even put in the automatic besides level 10?

probably close to 20-30 whp depending on how aggressive your e60 tune is. And about the same, if not more wtq. Definitely enough to push a weak transmission over the edge.

It was the basic BMS BEF on E60. Not sure what to do I do not like when something like this holds me back as I said internals of the transmission looks good the fluid change fluid looked good no metal shavings etc so I am perplexed maybe s Mechtronics issue... What are the stock transmissions rated for what are people running on them? My woman said she notices the difference because before it made her feel like she was gona puke when I stepped on the gas.... Not anymore btw shes prego so shes sensitive to that kind of stuff. The low end torque when I get on it slightly for the on ramps. My car feels more powerful midrange vs 6k+ mainly probably cuz my turbos can only hold 15 ish psi after 6k but 20-21 psi is easy 3k-5k

Thing is my tranmission has no evidence of excessive wear on it.... I dont get it what causes a transmission under WOT to shift from 1st to 2nd then slam back to 1st almost instantly. Also on 2nd gear pulls to slip? Something shot in the valvebody? Aka mechtronics? Should I even buy a transmission from a junkyard with pretty much the same mileage as mine? 68k? I want to run turbos that will put out 500 whp but not if the transmission will go out every 15k. I've been modded since about 55k finally hit FBO and E85 BEF a month ago and right off the bat with that flash... Problems 70k currently... 20 psi midrange can only hold 16 psi top of rpm band.

your car has been a shit show since you bought it. I wouldnt be surprised if the tranny was abused as well prior to you owning it.
Have you taken it anywhere to diagnose it or are you using the internet to diagnose your issue? |

I can almost bet any place I take it to will say the car is not designed for that kind of power. It doesnt act up unless I run E60 and a E85 BEF. Stock it will not do anything bad. I have all the codes from the TCU. No one around here works on modified German cars besides the dealership an hour away and they didn't even know about the wastegate warrantyl that expires this month on the car. Also doesnt act up with race gas BEF on E40. Sad thing is I returned my Inlets and silicone ones are being shipped out today :-(

No one will work on it in any area around here dealership said they wouldn't diagnose what part of the transmission is shot they would just install a new one. The only Indy in my area was an ass on the phone asked him if he could diagnose the transmission and told him I was modded... Said Nope not interested and just hung up wtf.

Running 20 psi midrange? How many miles? Think I should buy a used transmission and rebuild mine in my basement over the winter? I hear a rebuild kit will be available by the end of the summer no junk level 10 crap I guess the material they use will result in 31% more holding power vs stock. Source N54tech.com
Not sure yet might just go back to stock car runs good that way sell the mods sell the car buy a reliable newer car get out of the high performance high maintenance market because kid number 2 will be here around thanksgiving. Last edited by mightbaal; 06-02-2016 at 06:37 AM.. |

If you get a different tranny, make sure it hasnt been abused. otherwise youll be back in this same situation. Also, you shouldnt need to upgrade it unless you are shooting for a high hp build. Think upper end of hybrids or single turbo. |
