I agree, X7's Merino seats are firm, and they are not very comfortable.

I wish BMW would use XM's back seats for X7. They are extremely comfy and relaxing. However, you can fall a sleep quickly, so they keep the front seats firm.

I’ve got a 21 X7M50i with vent/massage merino and a 24 X5 w sensafin and non messaging, and the X5 is far more comfortable.

I find my X7's seats quite okay (15k kms car) though I told my service Guy yestrday I would trade those any Day for seats that I just tried in G60 5 series, that was something else, especially the side support which is nonexistent compared to 5 series seats.

If time goes back, I would have ordered the synthetic leather for our X7 and X5. We really don't find the design of the full merino seats on the X7 and X5 to be comfortable at all for long trips. I was wondering if the design of the synthetic leather would make any change. They are no terrible but certainly my other cars are somewhat more comfortable for long trips. I think the pause of the SUV seats may play a role, cause our seats in our former 5-series were really extremely comfortable.

I had Sensafin on my 24 X5 without massage/ventilation and now merino leather on my X7 with massage/ventilation. The X5 seats (as the driver) felt more soft but I started to like X7 seats too. Have had it for only 2 weeks but maybe over time they become softer. One issue with sensafin I had was the plastic smell. It takes a while for the smell to go away.

No direct experience with Sansafin in any of my BMWs as they all have the Merino leather, but I truly like the ease of use/cleaning and softness of the synthetic leather in my Tesla. My next BMW will likely have Sensafin. It's softer, easier to clean (no need for conditioning), just baby wipes and won't even dry no matter what, and reports say that it should last as long or even out-last Merino or real leather. I also like the fact it won't wrinkle with time. I think Sensafin is the way to go for me going forward. I also like the stiching design. I'll see.. I still prefer my doors to be covered with leather so I don't like that BMW does not offer as much as premium coverage for side panels, etc, for the Sansafin option as it does for Merino.

Agreed. Have had my X7 M50i for 3 years and still can’t find a comfortable drivers seating position.

I was able to do that in 30 seconds in my XC90 and 911.

We have the Merino massage seats in my wife's and no issues. I have the Merino (no massage) in my work X7 and honestly feel no difference. Both are very comfortable and make driving for hours a non-issue.

We have atlas grey/white with massage and multi-countour. Seats are bliss even for 10 hour drives. Compared to Tesla and M3 buckets, it’s like a spa in the X7. But prob the most comfortable seats we’ve ever had on any vehicle.

I have a ‘24 and my wife drives a ‘20 X7 M50. I like the seats in the ‘20 much better.

Just wanted to share this interesting thread from the X5 forum which shows the inner working of the ventilated seat. It turns out ventilated seats shouldn't change anything about seat comfort.

I find our 2023 X5 Merino seats with massage and ventilation to be very comfortable. My sister has a 2022 X7 with merino, massage and vent and they are equally as comfortable.
