Is the A/C "Too Smart"??

I know we have had a bunch of threads on if the A/C is weak, just fine, etc...

I didn't see this question before. Today, I finally had to use A/C Max and I noticed that as the only one in the car, the vents on the left and right of the driver were great cool air. The left passenger vent (the one next to my right side driver's vent) was blowing warm or uncooled air. Through the iDrive I can't change those settings either whereas I can see the driver settings.

Is the car so smart that it knows there is no passenger so it doesn't push cooled air to those 2 vents????

If so, ok but over-engineered. If not, then a trip to service is in the offing...

Thanks in advance!

Go into the iDrive menu and change your “vent temperature”.
Very common issue in and winter with new owners. It is in the manual.

My vent temp is set for the coldest. I know that trick.

I'm just wondering if the system knew there was no passenger so somehow decided to "save" forcing cool air to that seat.

Unfortunately it’s not that smart. O.k well then you could have one of those defective air mix boxes. There are some threads on that issue by a few others.

I had this issue. Think I had front cool when set but the second row was like thousand degree which made middle tunnel melting hot.
They had to change something under the dashboard so 3 days of work.

Took it in yesterday morning...just got it back. No leak or fault that they could detect BUT they did say the refrigerant was low and the spec is 900g and they drained out 568g and then charged up to spec. Of course, I tested it right away and now it blows cool air everywhere so at least it is "fixed" in the sense that it no longer blows warm air from the passenger side.

Glad it was quick and relatively painless. Super happy to get my car back before the long weekend as I was not a fan of the loaner i4M they gave me since I don't have electrical charging at home. Upside was I didn't have to pay for gas....high class problems I know.

Thanks, something is messed up! I guess I should take my X7 in ! It’s embarrassing when it never cools down to stop sweating ? Then I drive my jeep wrangler to work and it’s fine? Why do I have to drive my jeep in the hot weather to not sweat ?!?!! I want to drive the x7?

I have been getting complaints from second row passengers their ac was warm air when I set 70-72 synced. The first rows were cold air though. Outside temperature was about 80-85. Could that be a refrigerant issue as well?

May not hurt to check if under warranty (just the hassle factor and your time). Mine was definitely "warm" air coming out of passenger side so it was a no-brainer for me and it is definitely "cold" air coming out now so again, other than your time/effort may be worth the shot.

It's my first "real" issue as I clipped 25K miles when returning home today.

Yes, probably a good idea to visit the dealer. I was going to mention this issue at my next service visit. Glad to hear it was a straightforward fix though.
