Window Tint in Chicago Area

Hi all -

I know there was a thread a couple of years back but since it’s been a couple of years, I thought I would ask since it’s my first time considering window tinting.

Looking to get the windows tinted on our 2020 X7 M50i. We live in the Western Suburbs of Chicago.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a place to take it for tinting?
And then what tint applications would be good?

TIA!

John

Umbra Tinting gets great reviews. I haven't used them personally, but am planning to do it this year to tint the sunroof in my X7.

I have used Umbra tint on all my cars for tint and ppf. They always do a good job and have great service. Nino the owner is great to work with and he is always at the Schaumburg location which is where I go.

Thanks, Guys!

I see they use LLumar…. I’m assuming that’s good, or at least good enough for what were trying to do, which is just get some darker tint on the windows…. particularly the fronts.

Now does anyone have any idea of what percentages I should be looking for to start with?

I’ve been debating tinny as well- more for the heat blocking. There is another section of the forum dedicated to tiny/ppf/car care etc. many across the Bimmerpost use this; not just the X7 owners. Searching for Llumar showed a number of threads on it including- https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=30681589

That section also has some thoughts on %s.

Let us know what you end up doing and pls share some pics!

They use LLumar and also Xpel for tinting. I went with 15% in the front to match the factory rear windows. They measured the rear windows at 15%

I'm actually going to ceramic coat my sunroof at Umbra next week. Will report the results here.

Alright, so Umbra installed the Xpel Prime XR Plus film on all 3 roof glass pieces. The work was completed in less than an hour and a half. Everything looks good so far. Paid $300 total.

I went with the 75% transparency based on some of the reviews on this forum. I also didn't want to block the sunlight. My goal was to block heat instead. Honestly, I don't see any difference in the sunroof transparency after the film installation but we've had a gloomy and snowy day today in Chicago area so it may be hard to notice the difference.

I also tried to take the "before" and "after" pictures but again, weather isn't cooperating today so there is not much value in posting them here.
