No there are not. You will have to go with a non-runflat tire if you want to use the stock 162 wheel.

How are you guys deciding which winter tires to buy?

Any history with a certain brand/style or does someone have a link to a good snow tire website?

I just bought an extra set of 16" wheels for my wifes car, now I just need to decide on which snow tires?????

I would strongly recommend the Dunlop M3 run-flat snows. These tires (225/45-17) perform very well in wet and dry conditions, and for snows, they are very smooth and quiet. Also, they have a longer tread life than the Blizzacks. I have driven up to 140kph with the Dunlops - very impressive snow tires. If they are available in your 16" size, I wouldn't hesitate to choose them.

Thanks Derek,

What do these tires normally run? $$$$?

Do they offer equal traction as a none RFT tire? Just curious because I have heard that the RFT tires aren't as soft and don't offer as good of traction in the snow.

Over on bimmerfest, a guy from TireRack suggested waiting to buy until September to see what winter tires would be available for the coming season.

I just got the M3 in a 16in, $151. Not a lot of snow in the Chicago area the past few winters, but enough to get snows. I had a hard time deciding between the M3's and the ContiWinterContact™ TS810 S http://www.conti-online.com/generato...master_en.html

My M3's are on backorder until the end of Sep so I have time to change. I was wondering if the Conti's would be more quiet and better wet/slush tires which is most of the winter. Any suggestions?
The guys at tire rack were not much help.

Tire rack has the M3's in stock (just checked), according to their website. Tires + rims is a pretty sweet deal too!

Question

i know this topic has been killed repeatedly, but a couple of things to add...

first of all, i ordered the Pirelli 240 Sottozero RFT's from TireRack in the stock 225/40 and 255/35 size thinking 'wow, this'll fit perfectly!' according to the site at the time of ordering, they were gonna be available in late October. i called them to double check the status and surely enuf, the guy told me he doesn't expect to see these this season! so needless to say, i asked him to cancel my order. i also called Pirelli to see if they had any inside info as to when or if they would be available before this season arrives, but the lady couldn't tell me anything more than they SHOULD be available. when? God knows!

secondly, any advice on what i should do now that that option went out the window?!? i was thinking of getting the style 195 wheels in the stock 18" staggered sizes and put on some winter non-RFTs for this season and make due with a cheap spare in the trunk (extra weight might help anyway). that way, when the 240 Sottozeros are available next year and beyond, i can switch over at my convenience or when these winters wear out. plus, i'd have an extra set of nice OEM 18" wheels. or should i go with the 225/45-R17's all around and put on the winter RFTs that are available in that size, e.g. Dunlop M3, Blizzak LM-22, or ContiWinter???

is there a noticeable difference in traction when comparing winter tires of 225/45-R17 vs. the stock-fitted wider 18" tires??? i understand the science behind it all, but i was wondering if anyone had any real-life experience with the difference.

i've been pondering this whole winter tire changeover for the past 2 weeks and have come to no conclusion as of yet...any help is appreciated!
