I have done OTA updates before. This was no different. Updated the software from 11/2023.30. I have a X7 2024 40i. After successful full software update as confirmed by bmw app and on the screen in the vehicle, the check engine light came on and when I put the vehicle in Drive, absoutly no power to the car even when the Gas pedal was floored. Also with it crawling less than 1mph, the wheels suddered as if the drivetrain was not in proper gear. The upper right of the dash where it shows Power % was now reading E Power. Dealer came and flat bed it to their shop.

This all happened right after the software update. Before that no issues.

I haven't had any disabling faults since the upgrade but have had innumerable software glitches. The significant advantage is the Highway Assist improvement. Bumbling Motor Works needs to get their act together on debugging software before release. At least they are consistent with their fumbles

It’s discusting for a vehicle over 115k that there is such an Enormous amount of software glitches - its completely unacceptable. I can’t even count anymore the number of software reinstalls the dealer needed to do.

Software updates are becoming non-sense for BMW recently.

I turned off all OTAs on all my BMWs. I only proceed with the updates when I see here on this forum enough feedback, or once it's at least one OTA version old. I don't have time to waste on non-sense BMW updates. They failed me twice already.

Ask your dealer to update to 11/2023.50

I think that’s the latest build, at least that’s what BMW NA told my dealer to do on my ‘24 X7 when my right screen had a 10-sec delay on start up.

If you're already on .42, there's a good chance you can't update to .50 anyway.

It will only apply if there was a change from 42->50 in one of the ECUS in your car (and the ISTA delta was quite small for that one)

.58 is the latest available in the new ista

Probably bad judgment on my part, but I upgraded to 11/2023.42. I did it at home so I wouldn't be stranded somewhere. So far, no problems have appeared and I don't see any significant enhancements either. I'll keep the forum posted.

How is the welcome light animation? Wondering if this is noticeable.

Updated our 2 month old ‘24 and went smooth. Only thing I noticed is the parking break indicator in the HUD was on when it should have been off. Toggled it and has been fine since. No other issues to report.

I updated, so far I have not seen anything go wrong. I went through a ton of stop signs and on occasion I would see one in the HUD to indicate a stop sign lol.

Im wondering about the welcome light I’ve seen no difference.

Sorry about your car hopefully they get it fixed up quick for you.

We use to assess these OTA updates to why would you do any updates if your vehicle is operating properly???

These are not cell phones yet tech centric owners like to think they are and race for the next update hoping they’ll get something new but in reality unless your vehicle is having issues, pass on the “free” updates.

This advise coming from someone that worked with the BMW advance technical team with over the air updates on the iDrive7.

Ran the upgrade this morning with no apparent changes to functionality. I don't see anywhere to change the lighting animation like it says in the patch notes, but maybe that only applies to certain vehicles. The XM is the one shown in the image.

CarPlay is working fine in the brief time I was in the car. I still need to test the case where walking away from the car while it is on disconnects CarPlay, but then when coming back in range, it can't reconnect CarPlay.

I updated my ‘23 X7 M60i and the check engine light came on. Then i started the car back and the light was off. However when I put the car in Sport/Sport Plus and start the car, the valves were still closed. Prior to the update, the valves used to open for about 5 seconds after the Sport/Sport Plus startup.

Updated No problem

I updated OTA Wednesday, no problems. Have the new lighting and a few other upgrades. All went smooth. Sorry to hear others having difficulty.

With a long discussion with my service center they advised the ota software updates are not going well in general. They say bmw releases the software too soon.

When service does software updates they use a direct hard wire connection and they monitor the progression of the update and can see if there are faults being triggered. With 11/2023.58 installed now, so far no other issues to report thus far.

There is really no reason for those kinds of fumbles. Checksums and other software verification techniques can virtually ensure proper OTA updates without all these problems along with adequate Beta review and debug before release. It is hard to believe corrective action is not being taken particularly since a process fix would save BMW and their dealers time and money.

How do you “have the new lighting” and what are the other upgrades?

Believe me, there is a VERY thorough review process ( I have been actively involved ).

However as you know, every vehicle is different, the permutations of different ecus in each vehicle and the software installed on rum runs into the millions over the range.

It’s always funny that everyone complains when it the .20 releases ( the initial of a major ) aren’t immediately pushed to OTA.

Even the major rollouts are done by model , model year and region so they can be paused if there’s a lot of issues.

No software is bug free unfortunately, there’s always a calculated risk involved in any update
