I was promised “ Enhanced Welcome Light Animation with three new options: sporty and dynamic Allegro, elegant Adagio, and lively Vivace. Choose your preferred variant in addition to the current animations.”. But I can’t find those settings after I updated to 11/2023.42…. I would love to know where they are? I didn’t find them in exterior lighting?

OTA Update

My upgrade was very noticeable.

I have new welcome light animations, which I don't use. I have map updates, and improved driver assist functions including improved live monitoring of my daily commute from the BMW assistant. Other upgrades include enhanced functioning of my Apple Car Play and Apple Music. I don't use 99% of the auto functions, safety or self driving ability on my 24 Alpina. I turn them all off and drive the SAV stand alone.

Me neither. They’re not available for X7.

Can you choose 3 different light animations?

Can you explain about map updates and improved live monitoring of your daily commute?

So what is the latest here? Is it safe to upgrade or not? Mine has downloaded it but I haven’t installed yet to avoid headaches.

Even the major rollouts are done by model , model year and region so they can be paused if there’s a lot of issues.

No software is bug free unfortunately, there’s always a calculated risk involved in any update
I have installed software updates on many vehicles, none of which are as buggy as this . . . . not even close. I have also developed non-automotive software and would expect to have been fired had I released this level of bugs. Please also note the reference to dealer-related commentaries in this thread.

I did it and have no issues. The only “improvement” I see is sometimes it shows red lights and stop signs. That’s it.

Hard to say. Many report problems but my OTA update was flawless. I recommend doing the install at home so you don't get stranded. The problems may be related to the vehicle version, but I am not sure of that.

One Other Question

Does anyone know why you have to be driving for the OTA update download to progress? That seems kind of strange, but maybe I am overlooking something.

My problem is that my previous X7 was bricked by a software update. You can read more past posts. Thus, I am very nervous do upgrade anything on the new one. It is working fine so I am not willing to take the risk.

Can't blame you. I came close to no install also.

I don't get it also. My other car is a Tesla and I found the BMW upgrade process so weird. I had to fumble back and forth between the phone and vehicle and had to be driving also.

If I remember correctly, on my last update, I downloaded to my phone and then uploaded from my phone to the vehicle which may be easier and quicker.

The strange thing is, my BMW App was notifying me that a new update was available (11/2023.42) earlier this week. I went to install it yesterday and now the app says there’s no update available. When I look at what version I currently have installed, my vehicle says I’m on 07/2023.53.

Guess I’ll wait until it shows up again.

Dealer said “drivetronic” fault was created. They installed 11/2023.58 software. Service said that it was a very wierd fault but it affected the power to the vehicle.
With the drive home from dealership no issues so far with newer software.

Same here, installed it and so far no issues. The only noticeable difference is the addition of traffic signs in the heads-up display.

Same for me - no light animations.

Have done i think 5 or 6 OTAs (pre and LCI X7s) and never any major problems other than some warning lights on but disappearing after some time.

I updated without any significant issues.

I have a nagging issue though. Now, when I have a route going in CarPlay and I switch back to the home screen. The CarPlay map only shows the route overview and not the normal map that you see when in CarPlay.

Updated went smooth, but no animations as stated. They should change their updated notes. They need give US the disable gps at home for comfort settings!

More Info

Just to update the forum on my experience with the OTA update. I can't confirm these circumstances are all update related but occurred immediately afterwards. I received notice on my BMW app on my phone Thursday. I downloaded to phone and XB7 instructed I must drive to install. I took a very leisurely drive around the neighborhood about 25 minutes. Install complete.

Next notification map/assistant update Friday morning at 5:00 am. On drive to work BMW assistant talks to me about bad traffic on my normal route, offers alternatives-never had this interaction before. As far as the welcome lights, I would describe it looking like a smiling Tiger face. As I approach the X7 in morning the face appears for approximately 20 seconds and then disappears once I am in vehicle. Predominately bright orange colors with white and grey accent. I have not set anything up in lighting settings nor have I looked.

Apple Car Play clean hook up and Amazon Alexa/Music all functioning well.

Hope this helps others in some fashion.

I took the drive-around option also but if I remember correctly when you download to your phone it is quicker and you don't have to drive around because you can upload to the vehicle directly from your phone. I would appreciate it if someone could correct me if my recollection is wrong.

Drive required?

If I am not mistaken - this OTA required I drive to install. I believe I received a message from both MY BMW app on phone and the XB7 control to drive if I wished to update. Previously I too have installed exclusively from phone while parked in garage. Just my experience again. Others situation may differ. Sharing this in order to possibly help our group, have a good evening all.
