NorCal Bimmers: Who's going to BMWCCA's car control clinic? (2/18/06)

The Golden Gate chapter of BMWCCA is organizing a car control clinic for its members on Feb 18 at Monster Park (Candlestick). It's $90 per driver plus $35 membership fee to join BMWCCA if you aren't a member already. Here's the link

http://www.ggcbmwcca.org/index.php?m...]=event&id=114

I'll be going just to improve my driving skills and see what the e90 is capable of. Anyone else interested?

Seems like a good course. The only thing that makes me hesitate is that this kind of course might be very harmful for the car and the tires. The run flat is just too expensive and we might just blow it in one day... $300 x 4 thats $1200 we are talking about here.

This looks really fun. I would probably do this first before trying autocross or high-performance driving. We are driving our own cars, but I guess that's part of the fun...why did we buy high-performance vehicles if we aren't willing to strain them?? hkj, I am not a member yet, but I may join for this CCC.

I plan to attend too, but must find a helmet first. I was hoping to borrow one.

the car control clinic will not ruin any tire in one day

I've run autocross (which is more abusive to tires than a car control clinic) and still been able to get 12000 miles and 10 autocrosses from tires with similar treadwear to BMW stockers.

the car most certainly isn't going to be harmed, you won't be dropping the clutch or abusing things (other than tires... just a little bit)

it's really important to understand what your car can do in an emergency, and modern BMW's are capable of far much more than most would think

anyone in the bay who hasn't been to one owes it to themselves and the car to go to at least one.

Plus if you ever want to go to the track with BMWCCA the car control clinic or other autocross or track experience is a pre requisite

I may end up going, not sure yet. The loaner helmets are nasty, just go to shoei's website and get yourself a snell approved hat, it will be a really good investment!

While we're at it, I know virtually nothing about helmets. Can someone recommand a good helmet place in the bay area (preferably south bay)? Also what should I be looking for? thanks in advance.

hit up any motorcycle dealer or cycle gear there's tons in SJ (BMW and Italian dealers are both on san carlos ave)

cycle gear will be cheaper than a bike dealer though

www.helmetharbor.com may help get a price range set for you
