Text Message Alerts

Anybody know about this feature? In my M5, I receive message alerts and can read on screen or have car read them out load. Can't seem to find how to activate this feature on the X7, assuming it exists...

You may have to go in to your phone's Bluetooth menu, select your paired phone, and tap to "Show Notifications"

Sorry! Iphone X and bluetooth. I already have my phone set properly, cause no issue in M5. I just don't see how to choose the function to work on the X7....

It should work automatically if you have Carplay enabled. You have to accept "sync contacts and favorites" on your phone when you connect it for this to work.

This is a great video on Carplay IMO.

Thanks, but does that entail using BMW's wifi hotspot? My wife and kids hate it.

Yes it is WiFi. Which is better for connectivity. Why do they hate it?

You don't need to have the WiFi hotspot activated, to use CarPlay, if that is what you mean. WiFi is just the communication protocol to connect wireless CarPlay. CarPlay works great for receiving and sending text. I use it everyday. Siri understands me better than my German car😁

They seem to lose phone functionality on it, so they wind up shutting off the wifi, to get normal.

I think he meant the loss of WiFi hotspot function when CarPlay is in use - since the WiFi would be dedicated to CarPlay communication.

That is not accurate my kids use WiFi hot spot while I use CarPlay everyday. The X7 WiFi is like a router it can handle multiple connections at one time including CarPlay.

I have unlimited LTE so I just use that. In previous cars, the LTE was faster most of the time. Is the hotspot a monthly subscription?

I pay $20 dollars a month through ATT for unlimited data. I have it through my phone also. The only reason why I got it in the car is to avoid having to cycle the hot spot on and off on my phone every-time my kids want to connect, which this is all the time, it much easier having WIFI always available that they don't have to log on to every time they need it. The WIFI in the X7 is on par with my phone my kids stream videos constantly without any issue.

No, they tell me that they lose some of the functions on their phones, such as ability to receive texts, etc. They all have been shutting off their wifi when entering car, until I finally disabled it. Note that 4 devices are hooked up at same time and 5, when I enter. Maybe an overload? lol
I'll setup non wifi carplay this weekend to receive texts.

BMW WIFI is capable of handling up to 10 devices. Not sure what's going on with your text messages we don't hook up our phones to the WiFi only kids iPads but they get and send text just fine.

Wifi should have no impact on texts, which are sent via cell data. Unless you're talking internet texts like Whatsapp.
